    Shaver Lake CA

We are planning a trip to Shaver Lake in August 2007.

Does anyone have any experience boating on this lake?

    Hotels to stay at?

    Thanks!

    Shaver Lake

It has been a while since we have gone to Shaver Lake, but we use to stay at camp edison in our RV. It is a beautiful lake, but quite a drive from southern ca.. I found this web site that may help you in your search. Good luck!

I go to Huntington lake for a week each year to spend at scout camp with my son. It is right above Shaver and feeds Shaver lake. They actually buy power from the Nuke plant in Frisco at night for a cheap rate and pump water up to Huntington. Then during the day the let it out of Huntington to generate power and sell it at the highest price possible to the farmer in the valley to run there electric pumps and such. So the water temp hangs around 65 to 75 degrees all summer. At about 10 am the lake gets rough from the heat in the valley racing up the canyon. and then about 6:00 pm it calms down and gets smooth again. I would say drive the extra 20 miles and stay at Huntington. You get up at sun rise and ride the lake. It is glass until about 7:30. Then a gentle breeze come in and by 9:30 10:00 you can run the sail boat if you have one. If you contact me I can set it up so you can use the cabins at the scout camp. They are not the best things in the world but it is nice. I will be there the 23rd-29th of June. But in order to use the cabins at the scout camp you have to boat in or hike in. We are building new docks this year for people with boats like ours. It is all about preferences though. Shaver gets very busy and you have to deal with a lot of people. the only thing you have to deal with at Huntington is sail boats during the windy time at Huntington. But the traffic there is so low that it is quiet and peacefully at night, during the day, and all year. This picture is on Huntington Lake at the scout camp. You can see why we are putting in new docks.

And some more pics. It is clock work with the wind and water every day. It all takes place the same time same place each day. Day in and Day out. Shaver is not that predictable and Shaver gets loads of people. I like my space.
