    Fenders

Fenders, Bumpers whatever you want to call them I have a question about those plastic things people hang off the side of their boat for protection.

What are people using? Standard? Flat? Bass Boat (low freeboard)? None of them except the flat seem to really fit and the flat style don't seem to offer that much protection.

I like the flat ones for rafting. I actually don't have any yet, but my two boating buddies both have them so we end up using them a fair amount. I like on on each cleat and one tied to the tower. That usually does the job fairly well.

I use the std round, 6" i think. I tied a loop in the rope that puts the fender in the right place to protect the boat. as I approach the dock, etc, I just slip the loop around the cleat, no more tying on and then adjusting

Along with fenders we use bungee ropes which dont allow the boat to really hit the side. Bungees work great if your staying at a resort and you can just set them in the slip and everyday pull in and slip it over the cleat.

Back to fenders we have about every kind imaginable and our prefered type are the big round ones. They seem to offer the most protection.

8.5" x 26" I don't let anyone get close with their stainless steel rubrail.

I use the same as Chp and SP. The 6" rounds. Just tie em off at the proper height, one off the tower leg, one off each cleat, and your done.

My brother-in-law has one of the big ole flat ones, and it seems like a pain. Takes up a lot of valuable storage space too.

The shot only shows about half the view. There's a PG side and... you can imagine the other side.

I would think the flats take up less space but offer less protection. I have two rounds but I end up tying exactly 1" of rope lower then the cleat for them to offer any protection so they seem kind of silly.

is what I was thinking about getting.

I use Boat Goats. They are a local thing, but they are hard plastic and go on the dock instead of on the boat like bumpers.

I usually have 2 fenders for each side and supplement with neoprene life jackets.
