I use Boat Goats. They are a local thing, but they are hard plastic and go on the dock instead of on the boat like bumpers.

You gotta remember though, not all of us have our own dock

If your gonna be tying up with people I'd use 8's and LOTS of them. I was washing the boat today and found all these little knicks in the gelcoat from the weekend below (sorry it's so small... I can't seem to get any of my pics small enough for this sight to accept them w/o doing them this way). I've been using 6's and had about 4 on each side and guess it was useless. Guess it's time to buy some 8's.

Oh yeah.... no matter what size of bumpers you have, stay away from pontoons! They are boat eaters!
