    New vs Remanufactured

What are all your thoughts on buying something remanufactured, at a much lower cost as opposed to buying something new?

Specifically, I'm looking at the Xantrex truecharge 20amp version. New they are anywhere from 250-300 bux. Remanufactured with a 90-day warranty they are 140-170 range.

I buy remanufactured all the time, especially electronics. You can bet it was bench tested, probably above that of a line item, by a tech trained to rebuild it.

That is my initial feeling too, but I want to hear from the masses.....and I am bored at work today

I buy remanufactured a lot as well. Mostly computers, because I figure I can fix any issue that the box might have if there are additional problems.

I also like to make sure the remanfactured stuff comes with a decent warranty.

I do so as well and if you buy direct from the mfr sometimes you'll get a full warrenty!

I trust my remans over a line item anyway. I'm telling you it has been fully benched, vs a quick test. Reman is the way to go.

I like manufacturers that don't have a ton of reman stuff from the get go. Doesn't mean I wouldn't buy reman, just means I stay away from companies that have reliablilty issues.

Yeah, but those are few and far between. I can't think of any companies that don't have those issues. Places like tiger direct will buy the remans and resell, others will sell the refirbs by the pallets to be resold on ebay.

Thumbs up on reman/refurbish. I'v bought every thing from auto parts to a GPS. Some things came with the same warrenty as "new" but for a lot less $$$

                    I just bought a Xantrex Truecharge 20+ refurb with a 90-day warranty for $154.

Thanks for all the input! With the extra cash I also bought the remote panel and the battery temp sensor.

Tiger Direct, and New Egg are where I get a lot of my refurb stuff too.

Sometimes the deals are just too good.

Now that I got all your opinions, I will confess, the major components of my stereo equip I have bought over the winter has been refurbs. Two kicker amps, and a Pioneer HU.

Good to know that I'm not the only one

This was a great thread to read. I always purchased new before and put out the extra bux, but it does make sense that the full bench test would be better than any quick test on a new version. Thanks for the thread and money back in the pocket.
