All my switched wires under the dash are purple as well and a purple is also connected to the coil the best i can tell.

No you just cut what you don't need, and resplice as required. The purpose of the one wire, other than simplicity, is to clean up the wiring in the engine compartment. That's one big reason why almost all show cars have 1-wire alts. It will be connected to the coil so the coil has 12+ when the key is on as well. I don't know why Tige' ran the choke and ignition leads through the alt diode; you can run them off any ignition switched wiring.

In fact, I bet if you check continuity between the purple and purple/white wiring alt lugs (the trio and the switched), it will be there. The purple white is probably tied to the hot side of the diode.

Ignition, coil, and the choke can all be spliced off the same wire, or same 2.....apparently you will have a couple of wires you can use, but they should all be ignition switched. Turn your key on, test them, and pick one.

What is it? Delco or Mando? Amps? Wire config? Talk to me man!

um, I can look at it when I get back to CA. I know it's a three wire, delco, and a 70 amp are what I think it is.

That sucks!!!!!!!!!!! My uncle is an electrician and always yells @ us saying "Electricity is not a hobby" I've been fried more then once and everytime I have to laugh afterwards b/c I think of his dumb@ss saying!!!!

Electricity is fun! wired my whole basement (and yes it all works). You just gotta double check your work (twice) before you put and juice into it.

Yeah loads of fun BTW, got my *new* alternator from DB Electrics today ... still gotta spray the positive terminals with some glow-in-the-dark red paint for the blind before i install!
