Steering Cable

I guess my suggestion, for what its worth, would be to figure out how to reroute the steering cable so that the bend is within the Teleflex specs.
a 3" radius bend in ANY steering cable is too tight. Again, just my humble opinion.Reality is only an illusion that occurs due to a lack of alcohol.

More than I want to spend. I am not convinced that would be the solve all either.

You can go to your marine supply store and pick up some stainless cable they have on a role , its aprox. eighth of an inch just like you will see on a out drive unit. Install the correct eye terminals on the ends and put ground from the rudder arm, there is a small screw on top to the rudder port bolt , leave enough cable steering travel distance, next put a ground from rudder port to steering support bracket just forward of rudder, next depending on which boat you have either v or direct ground from support bracket to engine block or battery ground , next under the dash run a ground from steering rack bolt to dash ground bar. If you have any questions you can call me at 1 888 517 3178.

cable problems
I have thought many times that hydraulic steering might be the hot set up in a ski boat. The advantage is that it stays where you put it and will not pull to either side. On other types of boats they work terrific but are pricey. The experts say that you need the slight pull on a course to help stay straight but i just wonder if any one has really tried hydraulic steering and what the results were. I guess my conclusion is that the factory would have used it unless there is a problem with the tracking?

Is the grounding to prevent corrosion?Originally posted by FIC View PostWe are currently testing the reasons that so many brands of boats are having steering cable problems . In our testing we have found that it appears to not to be water intrussion but that the flow of water across the rudder is gennerating electricity passing through the cable and seizing it to the housing . We are know adding ground cables to the housing and rudder arm to test the affect and will let you know the results as we get them. If you have a volt meter take the ground lead and hook it to a ground under your dash , next while the boat is in the water hook the positive lead to the steering cable housing , our boats were showing .06 volts to start when the boat was under way the voltage would increase up to 1.0 volts , anything above .2 volts is enough to eat the cable up. The type of water you are in will effect the ammout of voltage. If at all possible please post your readings for our data .Mikes Liquid Audio: Knowledge Experience Customer Service you can trust-KICKER WetSounds ACME props FlyHigh Custom Ballast Clarion LiquidLumens LEDs Roswell Wave Deflector And More
