Why would any of these companies stray far from the governments plan to expand ethanol. I'm not saying that there will be no expansion in diesel, but why not take some of the help that the government is trying to hand out. And what happens to all the R&D money that went into hydrogen technology? Do you think they'll say " oh screw that, lets do diesel." so if your going to bet that diesel will take over for the next 15-20 years i say good luck to that bet.

By the way anhaney what kind of car do you drive?

I am not betting that Diesel will be the next big thing but what I am say is to many people are under estimating what it coming with diesel. I also know there is a lot of things happening in the Ethanol, Bio-diesel, and Hydrogen world. However my wish is that all the Manufactures would get of there duffs quit catering to the oil companies and make Hydrogen the next big thing. GM has made some very good strides with this, and in my opinion if it happens they will be the leaders of it. I guess the first big change GM has made to get the company turned around was bringing the Nissan CEO over to run the show. The Chrysler Daimler merger was a good move to save Chrysler however it pumps the money out of this country. Then there is FORD they are a little lost right now but I don't see that ship sinking any time soon. Over all there is a lot of different technology out there and I can say that Gasoline refinements are getting so strict that the sources of fuel are going to change. Each manufacture is attacking it differently. It will be fun to watch it all unfold. I sit in a position that I get to see it two sometimes three years before you do.

To answer your question I drive:
      2006 Nissan Titan
      2000 BMW 328CI
      2000 GMC Sierra
      2005 TIGE 24V
and all kinds of diffrent rental cars.

I just don't want to see GM pull a dumb move by moving to 1/3 or more engines on diesel because the new emissions standards have pushed the price of a diesel truck up by close to 3 grand, and the price of diesel here is more than regular gas.

I wouldn't say it is all emissions standards. The total cost of production has gone up, have you seen how much steel and anything petroleum based has jumped recently???
