    Wiring a Tower....

Anyone have any thoughts on wiring a Monster Tower post install? Probably for lights, and eventually speakers.

Too many pieces to do that before installation with a Monster Tower.

The tower is already installed on the boat.

As Lee said you want the tower installed first because of how moveable the Monster parts are before they are fully installed. I put mine on by myself (except for enlisting the help of a neighbor while I went into a hatch) and I can tell you it is a flimsy mess until it is bolted and cinched.....but it is nice now.

You basically need to drill a hole in both ends of a rear leg, and a hole on the end of the crossbar, and again in the middle. Use grommets, and know beforehand how thick the wire bundle you are running is going to be, so you know how large the holes need to be. If you have a fishing tape, it would make running some nylon string through easier. Poke the fishtape, attach the string; pull the stirng through, attach the wires, pull the wires.

Appendix A in the tower manual has some photos too
If you add speakers or lights to your Monster Tower, you can hide the wires inside of the rear legs of the
tower as well as in the straight cross member of the top section. Since the mating parts insert ½” inside
each end of the rear leg you can drill 1” away from the weld lines. For the top section cross member you
will need to place the hole 3” from the weld line to clear the rotating collar assembly. The hole size will
depend on what size wire you are running and how many items you need to wire. The maximum hole
size we recommend is ½” but normally smaller is all that is needed.

            ADDITIONAL RESOURCES OF INTEREST
The various connectors, finishing grommets and items you will need for wiring lights and speakers can be
found at Radio Shack, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Ace and other hardware stores. You can also find much of
this at www.WayTekWire.com as well as many other online sources. There are some great technical
documents at www.installdr.com that may be of assistance as well. If you are interested in making your
own speakers or other items for your tower, check out www.diyTower.com.

I had trouble fishing wires through my tower. Ended up using dental floss and a shop vac to pull it through the tubing. then taped the wire to the floss and pulled it through. the fish tape kept getting caught on the joints.

could you use a magnent to the wire, have somthing metal on the end of the wire and a magnent on the outside of the tower

                  It could work.

it would be a mighty strong magnet to penetrate the thickness of the tower. after sliding the strong magnet along the tower you could then go back and buff the scratches out.

This is the recommended method. I did get mine done with fish tape, but it was really thin and I only found out about the shopvac trick afterwards. It's not a big deal, except if you do it in 100 degree weather so you can get your tower tunes before a major holiday weekend. I think I spent about 8 hours total, wiring the tower, installing the bimini, wiring the amp and adding a second battery w/ battery switch.

Let the dealer do it for you. They do it everyday and know how not to damage your tower.

Floss and a shopvac sounds like a winner.
