Does anyone know if the RZ4 will have the 8.1L

I really want to buy the RZ4, but I'm concerned that Tige might use that 6.0L. I've had that 6.0L, and it always had problems, too endless to list. I keep reading horror stories about that 6.0 on wake world threads, so I know I'm not the only one. Does anyone know if Tige's going to use that 8.1 in that huge RZ4? I've only heard that they're testing it.

Sort of, it's a long story that I can't really get into. However, I've heard through some friends at the factory that Tige may be concidering the 8.1L for the RZ4. I may or may not have also heard it's being tested in one of the proto RZ4 plugs. Which, I think the 8.1L would be an awesome choice. MC's been running that 8.1L for a long time, and I never read horror stories about it. Plus it weighs more, who doesn't want more weight in the back of their boat. Marine Power is also much more familiar with the 8.1L, then the 6.0 that they recently started tinkering with. It should have less problems than the 6.0. From everything I've read it's close to bullet proof. I'm hoping they make the right decision on this.

My guess it that it will be an option. Lee is the expert on this one, but if I remembered right I could opt for the 8.1 with the RZ2 but the cost was $$$$ and not what I wanted as I had a 454 big block in my boat.

Man you must like burning the gas . I've had 2500 lbs my 24V and never had a power problem with the measley 5.7

I usually have 10+ people on my boat, and I put about 40-50 hours a year on my boat in Powell. I surf 70% of the time, wake board 20%, and motor down the channel the other 10%. The 70% surfing keeps my fuel costs low. Honestly, the few times I had bigger guys on my boat wake boarding, I felt like that 6.0L had no pop. "Proto RZ4 plugs" is an extremely lazy way and probably not correct way to say Prototype RZ4 Plugs. The plug is the RZ4 hull. Tige has a couple of prototype boats running tests, with different motor packages. The gas will be expensive on the 8.1, but I also know from experience that the 6.0 is junk. I don't mind paying a bit more to have a reliable motor. I'm looking for reliability, the cost is second for me. I was just wondering if anyone new anything definitive about the 8.1 being an option.

I'll donate $10. You need the pylon, it's getting close to boat season.

Did you try a different prop? I know my 5.7 is never really taxed no matter how much we weigh it down. I did have cavitation problems, which is why I went with a 13x11.5.

No, I didn't try a different prop. I asked my dealer the same thing, but he didn't recommend switching due to our altitude. The motors run pretty weak at 6000 ft.
