If you don't think you need them, sometime when loading leave the boat back a few inches from the stop. Then when you get to the top of the ramp hit the brakes quick and you'll see how easy the boat moves around on wet bunks. It will also slide back if you slack up the winch. My opinion is they are very needed.

You can get the buckles by that teak. I don't have the buckles but I strap it on everytime and I have about the same clearance. You obviously can't get the hook through but you can slide the strap past and then attach the hook.

This is what I do, I have the F/G swim but it's close too. I've got a sheet of clear mask to cover the transom against board hitting it, I will cut it wide enough and long enough to cover past and below the lift-eys.

I have not had any rubbing yet, but will stop it before it starts

Well we do not have the rear straps but we do have the winch and a saftey strap.

I have an idea. If it quits raining long enough tomorrow I will go out and set it up to see if it looks like it will work. If it does I will post pics of it on my boat.

I think in Missouri you need them if traveling on the interstate or over 50mph, if I remember right.

I think it is definitely necessary to use the rear tie downs. Check out the pic I posted on page 3 of this thread. Rear tie downs would have made a difference. It is really the medium severity accident when the rear tie downs will save your boat. We went through this all before.

This came a year ago or so, and I called the highway patrol. Their answer was no you don't have to have them, but the Officer has the option of declaring it an unsecured load. Basically they said if you were in a situation and didn't have the straps on, and your boat came loose, you were getting an unsecured load.

Loads which might become dislodged to be secured--failure, penalty.

"307.010. 1. All motor vehicles, and every trailer and semitrailer operating upon the public highways of this state and carrying goods or material or farm products which may reasonably be expected to become dislodged and fall from the vehicle, trailer or semitrailer as a result of wind pressure or air pressure and/or by the movement of the vehicle, trailer or semitrailer shall have a protective cover or be sufficiently secured so that no portion of such goods or material can become dislodged and fall from the vehicle, trailer or semitrailer while being transported or carried.

2. Operation of a motor vehicle, trailer or semitrailer in violation of this section shall be a class C misdemeanor, and any person convicted thereof shall be punished as provided by law. "

I attach the strap to the rear tie downs located on the transom. The strap slips easily between the teak platform and the transom.

I also use a rubber pad to protect the paint.

It is the yellow piece in the picture. I purchased it at West Marine. I only wished that it was red or black to match better.

Takes only a few seconds to attach and helps to really secure the boat down.

As an experiment try going over some bumps without the boat tied down and you will see it shifts around quite a bit.
