by router, you mean a wood-router? I have a handy little ryobi, no table though. I think about 60 bux at HD. The bits are spendy though.

Cool. Thanks for the explano. I tried it both ways and then some and what sounds good to me is having that thing full of fill. It sounded a bit loose without it and it was a lot more work getting it dialed in. The fill really tightened it up and seems to sound better across the board. Much easier to dial in as well.

I think the most important thing you said was "what sounds good to you". By your logic, my sub sounds like crap. Slightly undersized box for my particular sub filled with fill. I dunno, sounds great to me and everyone else on the boat. It's like that and that's the way it is.

I would not recommend Ryobi, but I needed one and it was cheap. Its worked so far, but yeah, Dewalt or Porter-Cable

I got a Ryobi for Christmas a couple years ago. It's just a 1/4" drive, and it works ok. I have a 1/2" Porter Cable that I like much more, plus it is a plunge router, which is 1000 times more useful IMHO.

yeah, the Ryobi is fine if you just gotta go around the edge of something, and don't have a whole lot to do. its a good cheap solution. But if you are really gonna get into it, like anything else, go BIG!

yeah my friend told me to go 1/2, i'll be doing some big wood for this box and what not. So, I'll look into it.
