    DIY Subwoofer

So here it is. Just got done cutting and assembling. Still need to trim it up and glue, seal and finish it, but you get the idea.

10" Kicker is goin in there. Should fit nicely under the port side windshield in the storage area.

I'll put some rubber footies on it to keep it off the wet carpet, and the sub will face down to pound on the hull. Gotta keep the fish away

I was lucky enough to have a friend that had a double set of R/F's (10") that he no longer needed. So I took them in exchange for a summer full of free rides for him which amounted to 6 times (not bad). I cut the large box in two and took the one half excited to my boat only to discover that the opening to the storage area was to small for the sub box. We had to dismantle the box and nail it back together once inside the compartment. I still have not hooked it up though, (lazy, lazy, lazy). This spring's job I guess.

yeah, its a poplar plywood, 3/4". Not great if you glue it and then realize you gotta cut it down. So it took about an hour and a lot of patience to not wreck the wood last night. But it got back together just fine, and should now fit nicely.

I couldn't find any MSB in pieces big enough, so I went with this. Its pretty doggone rigid.

spharris will have to chime in here, but it has to do with the way it's made and it's not dense enough. IT distorts the sound waves. and flexes. I'll let sp chime in on the exact reason as he is the audio guru. If he doesn't I have it in a book I can look it up, but off the top of my head that's why.

                  Let me know.

looks like you can use plywood, if it's void free, but it's not as dense as mdf so it doesn't have the accoustical dampening effect.

You should be fine with the 3/4 inch stuff. Not the perfect material, but it will certainly hold up. I would suggest that you coat it inside and out with resin, to seal it before you carpet it. The plywood will absorb moisture.

Shouldn't this be in our NEW Stereo category? That was my disclaimer so i can post without feeling guilty When i got my 10" z3410 sub Rockford stated the optimal sealed box size was .75cf so i figured i'd have to make it myself. I stumbled across one on eBay at .79cf, well made of 3/4" mdf, sealed, terminals and carpeted which i won the bid for $28 total including shipping! I couldn't have made it for 3X that and the .04cf difference will have no effect.
