Wow, that's some heavy duty towing, at 60mph that comes out to be 5.45 mpg.

20's suck. I cant stand them.
Trucks need to be big and so do the tires. If your gonna put money into it, slap a lift and some 35"s and take that bad boy off road like is should be.

Sorry to the guys w/rims out there, I just think trucks should be big. I think society has ruined the truck and suv market. Bring back the k-blazer and the full size bronco w/the removable tops no that was a man's convertable!

I get the same mileage Matt gets towing my 24V. I have a an 05' F150 SCrew w/ 3.73's and the 5.4. WORST Truck I've ever had. It doesn't want to start half the time. My fuel line blew on me during the 4th leaving me and my boat stranded at the lake. I'm still in the midst of a lawsuit with ford over this piece. I was getting ready to buy a D-max while this lawsuit is going on, but I got a chance to look over the new Tundra's. Not to bad. The 5.7 is pretty NICE. So now I'm torn on what to do.
Being a major OU fan and a staunch conservative.... I am perpetually vexed w/ the conundrum of who to hate more. Obama or the Univ. of Saxet.

I'm waiting for the new twin turbo fords, or the 1/2 tons to go diesel, then I"ll make my move.

I can see getting a bigger truck if I was towing a lot. but we are not.

My wife is a ace with backing the boat down the ramp and she likes the size of the F150.

Our lake is a 10 minute drive on back roads, given we live on the top of a mountain, so coming home their is a pretty steep stretch, but not for a long period of time.

We plan on a few road trips this summer as well but only a few hours from home....

After some thinking and more research I think we are going to go with the Lariat and forget about the Harley truck. The Lariat is very nice and is rated for towing well over the weight of the boat. ( forward thinking here: if their is any issues with warranty I do not want the weight of the boat to bite me in the *** with ford warranty if I went with the HD) nor do I want to look at the legal issues of being over the GW for the truck if we were ever in a accident with it..

I personally think Ford messed up with this year Harley truck, to think people would not want to tow with it is just stupid! the market is driven to harley owners, and I know a few and they all seem to have nice big toys that require towing

I still have some thinking to go with but I will keep everyone posted with what we end up with.

Thanks you all for the opinions

I have an '05 Dodge 2500 4x4 quad cab w/ Cummins and I have very few complaints!!! My biggest complaint would be the 4sp. automatic tranny. My next Dodge will be a manual and a mega cab!!!!! But I don't pull my boat much with it anymore since we bought a 32ft. 5th wheel camper. The camper loaded down is approx 10,000-10,500lbs. and I still average 10.5-11.5mpg. My buddy has the same thing but in a GMC with the Duramax/Allison and he pulls a travel trailer that weighs 4000lbs less and gets a little bit worse gas mileage then I do!!!!!! Now I know that 5th wheel campers pull alot easier but he is VERY disappointed with his GMC 3/4 ton and it's pulling MPG's. He has pulled my boat and still had about the same mpg as my truck pulling my boat. SOOOOOOOO like pretty much everyone is saying it's all in your personal preferences............But one thing I will have to say is that I don't think I could ever bring myself to buying a Toyota or Nissan truck.......Just a personal thing I'm sure they are nice... but like Domsz said... I won't get anything smaller then a 3/4 ton! Good luck and I am sure that Ford will do everything that you ask of it!

                              Nissan TITAN

I use a Nissan Titan. I pull a 24V up the Grapevine in California which is a 6.5% Grade at 70MPH. While pulling I get 14 MPG. When I am not pulling I get 22MPG. I love the space in the cab for the kids. It has a 9800 LBS. tow capacity and it pulls way better than my GMC. The only thing is the transmission does not like low RPM when pulling a heavy grade you have to push 2500 RPM or more to keep the variable displacement pump pumping oil to keep your trans cool. The big plus is the 60,000 mile warranty on all powertrain and the truck brand new cost me 29,000. Half the price of a FORD or GM product. That is for a fully loaded truck to boot with the exeption of chrome package and head rest DVD players. The upgrades cost additional 4,000. I opted out of those options. It may be worth your time to go check out the Nissans.

It's alright, most of us have boats on the brain.
