Remote Experience?

Anyone ever used or seen one of these? I can't find a picture of the back of this thing, and I don't want to drop 100 bux just to find out I gotta punch a huge hole in my transom.

Are there other transom remotes out there that would be better for a Pioneer HU?

They make remotes for just about any HU. I have it on my boat and I has a solid range of over 100 feet. Plus it is water proof and floats.

Plus you don't have to put it on the transom. Just put it on a lanyard and you can keep it with you on the beach and change tune without getting in the water.

We do a lot of swimming and hanging in the water inbetween runs. We don't spend a whole lot of time on the beach. what I would really like is a transom remote. If I could find one that just attached to the transom, wireless, I would be all set. I can live with drilling screw holes in my transom if thats what I need to do, but drilling a big-ol' hole is not my idea of fun.

The only option you will have with a transom remote it to drill. PAC makes some wireless remotes (Infrared I think) that work with the access technologies remote. I have one of these hardwired next to the drivers seat.

I saw the iRock unit and really like it as you can mount one unit in the center of your steering wheel for easy access. BUT you have to buy the remote and a receiver for $150 total! I can get the Pioneer wired remote for $60 bux so it's a no-brainer for me 'cause i'm a cheap bastard!

My HU is right at the helm, so a steering wheel remote is not necessary.

What I can't find for any of these is how it gets mounted. This one says its .625" in height, which is great. But how does it mount?? I can't find an install doc or anything that states how it gets connected. Just screws? Also with Infrared, it needs line of site, right? That won't work all that well if its mounted on the transom.

I love the remote, so when im about to go ride, i can find the music i want to listen to wihout having the driving stumbling for it

Thats what I am most concerned with is drilling in my transom.

I installed mine last season it is a clarion and about the only tools were
1. drill
2. hole saw (the right size) start it in reverse
3. file or a flapper wheel to round the edges
4. 3m sealent I forgot the name but it 1000 times better than silicone if you need the name I can get it
4. 6 pack of beer for yourself when your done to calm your nerves its not that big of a deal but remember to measure, measure, measure then cut

You replace it like you would anything else on your boat. These days, things are made to break.

I want to say Lee had an install using one of those PAC swix's or whatever they are called. It looks to be surface mount, so it would attach to the back via wood screw/tapping screw.
