Stereo question ~ SPharris you out there?

Ok so I'm going to run two Orion amps to power the system. One two channel (HP 2400) for the towers and a four channel (HP 4800) for the four inside speakers and the sub. The HP 4800 amp is rated 65w x 4 @ 4ohms or 100w x 4 @ 2ohms. I'm thinking running the RF Powers T162C 6.5 (75w rms / 150 peak) in the boat parallel wired for 2ohms into the two front channels and bridge the two rear channels (200w) for the RF Punch Z3410 sub (150w rms / 400w peak).

Will this work ok? Will it heat up the amp more? Or should i series wire them? As i understand it series wiring retains the 4ohm rating, correct?

The amp will for sure get hotter, but it will be stable and will turn off if it gets too hot temperature wise. Orion has always made good stuff, used to be top dog and still are to many followers.

Make sure you can bridge the rear channels before you try that. Does it list a Wx2 channels at 4ohms?

Here's the stats straight off of the site, i assume the mono rating of 200 x 2 means it's bridgeable?

      Max Power 800
      4 Ohm Rating 65 x 4
      2 Ohm Rating 100 x 4
      1 Ohm Rating -
      Mono Rating 200 x 2

      THD+N < 0.1%
      Damping factor > 200
      Signal to noise ratio -80dBA
      Crossover range/scope LP 20 - 3khz HP 20 - 3khz
      Input sensitivity 200mV - 5V
Safe load impedance 2 ohm stereo

Yes....mono means two channels into one driver (mono speaker....no stereo sound)....you want to make sure you split a single channel going into that amp, unless it has a switch to do it for you.....It will say somethign in the manual. External means you can combine two amps to bridge a channel....one amp does one coil, another does the other, or one lead to one, one lead to the other sometimes, and there is a link cable , or a switch and some jumpers between them usually.

So what you want to do is a thumbs up.......

COOL! Now, parallel wiring or series on the speakers?

4 ohm speakers on the front channel....wire each side in parallel to drop the resistance in half. This will give a 2 ohm load per side. Both positives and both negative will be joine together on each ciruit.

The sub you are going to bridge normally assuming it is a single voice coil sub. This will make it bridged at 4 ohm....you dont have much choice with it.

I love reading about stereo stuff. I really want to teach a class at the HS level just on the physics and practical use of mobile audio set up and design.

                    LOL!

I thought that dual voice coils was something that happened with your girlfriend!

On a serious note. I like Spharis advice about how to hook your system up.

Sounds like it is going to be a kicking system. Congrats.

                        razz,
I have my inside and sub wired the same way thru a RF amp. It will kick nicely.

I a not sure of the model I bought it in 03 and it was the 02 model amp or so they say I think it runs 125x4 @ 2 and then 250 on the bridge.
It has been a good amp for lasting 3 summers ont he boat so far.

Razz, I just installed 6 of the T162C's in the cabin, 2 up front and 4 in the back. Let me know what you think of them when you get them running.
