It is normal and what it will do is slow you down coming into the turns. You can take it off and experiment with different angles depending on how you ski. If your not a big course skiier you probably dont need. Im not 100% sure on all that information, maybe someone who knows a little bit more could correct me.
The ski I used to ski on did not have one, but my new one does.

can you explain how the __ at ___mph works i never got that
Ok, well the faster the speed the smaller the wake but the harder it is to get from bouy to bouy> normally you will go about 32-36 mph. and yes <1mph can be a big difference.
15' off means that the rope is 15 feet shorter than full length. As you make all 6 bouys you go faster and shorten the rope. It also depends on what division you are in, Different divsions have different requirements. I think at 33 1/2 off the rope is 6 inches? maybe? too short. So if I stopped the boat in the middle of the course and took the handle out to the bouy it would b 6 inches too short of the bouy.
Does that help?

Eh, Im not sure but the full rope is about 70 feet? Maybe, not sure on that.
There are 6 bouys in a full course.
My name is John.
It doesn't necessarily mean you can hit them all. Like right now the world record set by Chris Parish, is 1 1/2 41' off at 36 mph? Im not sure on that and I know I dont have that issue of Waterski mag that had that info in it.
Ill have to break out a Waterski mag, and maybe that will explain a little better.

I keep mine in an indoor storage in the desert. I can boat year around, but storage is a premium where I live. The desert is much cheaper and that is where we boat.
