Not trying to fan any flames here and I can't speak for anywhere else but in California they're starting to crack down on the non approved vests, especially on the lakes run by the corps of engineers. Only makes sense to wear one anyway, over the years i've had a few incidents that i might not have been around if not for the approved vest.

I liken this thread to same 'ol arguement bikers have bitching about for years concerning helmets. "can't hear", "makes my head hurt" or "it's too hot" when in reality it boils down to the cool factor plain and simple, ya can't be cool wearing a bucket. Well I've got about five of 'em in my garage and i could care less about cool, that's for the bike and boat are for if i so desire.

I could say "i could care less what you wear, it's your a$$" but in reality it does concern everyone to an extent. More people on the water + more accidents = more sanctions for everyone. And believe me it will happen because politicians just love crap like this to promote themselves and look good in their constituants eyes. So in reality it boils down to willingness to do so as you can get used to anything, including that slightly bulkier approved vest. Oh yeah and maybe not looking quite so cool. Just my opinions on this subject

      good point Razz,

The argument I would say though is unless your wearing a type 1 or 2 vest that will turn you over, most of the NCGA still float you. So... if I pass out in a CGA or a NCGA if i'm face down neither one will help me live. Just my .02

I think the major diff between a type 1 or 2 and a type 3 is that a 3 will not be yanked of in a fall from a ski, tube, etc.

Your right about the roll over, but unless your boat leaves you for dead , I dont think you would drown that fast

Just to add, I have flagged down dumb@$$s for tubing thier kids in orange "horse collars"
