Which batteries are best for audio power??

Personally I am not a fan of the Optimas for the stereo, even though a ton of guys run them. At only 55 Ah there is not enough juice to power the stereo all day. In my buddies DCB he has 3 Blue tops and might get 30 mins of play time with his system if he turns it up at all.

Word. Optima doesn't really market as a real powerful bettery. they market around being a "spiral cell" that you can mount anywhere, anyhow, and in any environment, and expect greater life from the battery.

It's hard to beat the 59.99 marine Duralasts at AutoZone, especially with the 4yr-8yr. pro rate return.

There are only 3 battery manufactures in the USA..Union Carbide, Johnson Control, and Exide the three make all the major brands and just place their labels on them.

yeah I have thought about those. Just can't decide, I know three people that use the trojans and they work and have loud systems. Just can't decide. I like to use something that works, and works well. Esp when I'm demanding so much from it.

this has me thinking. I mean costco and sams both have some 6v golf cart batteries very similar to the trojan. I just wish they had the Ah rating on them. They don't so I don't feel like buying them. The trojans are twice as high, but I just can't decide. Has anyone seen these batteries? One brand is engerizer, and the other is what ever costco brand is. Anyone have any info on these 6v?'s

If what Tanner is saying is true it makes me want to go buy them and save some money.

Dom, as far as Costco batteries, I just put 2 of the 115 ah 12 volt deep cycle batteries in my boat for my system. At $59.00 each, it was tough to beat. Not sure why you want to load up your boat with twice as many 6V though unless you need ballast. More cables, more acid, more work.

it's not all about the ah reading. It's about the discharge rate as well. Also, one battery equals two of yours. The trogans are 225 ah reading. So this all factors in. Costco had some 6v in as well and I'm wondering how they work.

The other reason I'm wanting to do this is:

1) weight doesn't bother me, just means a bigger wake
2) I know three people that have done the trojans and they work GREAT and they are running slightly smaller systems.
3) I'm running just under 6000 watts and the bass will be hitting very hard and I want to make sure it can all handle it.

Dom, I thought you were using the t105's which are only rated at 100 ah. You must be using a much bigger 6v battery for it to be rated at 200 ah.

Your right Dom, two of the 6v t105's will equal 225 ah and two of the Costco 12v will equal 230 ah. Same/same except you can return your Costco batteries every 11 months and get free replacements-no questions asked. My guess is that your two 6v's are the better setup though.

That again is purely by the numbers. The trojans are probably a better battery.

um, the ratings on the t105's are 225 each.. so wouldn't 2 105's be 450?

i just really can't decide. I like the idea of having a cheaper battery, and your right I can return them anytime I want. Are costco's sealed? I was changing the oil on my truck last night looking at my batterys and they sure enough were not sealed batteries, popped the tops and could see the coils so had to add some distilled water.

No-they are 6V, you don't add the ah together unless you are wanting the 6v ah rating. You must divide by 6v rating by two for the 12v rating. The Costco batteries are acid and not sealed, just like the Trojans.

ok,i see what your saying now. So with 2 12's you get about the same as the 2 6v trojans

Interesting. I may just to save some $$ and if it doesn't work, I just keep returning them till I decide to get trojans. They are deep cycle so they can handle the abuse of draining and then recharging, right?

They are deep cycle marine batteries. From what I have found, only deep cycles have an ah rating.
