Mussels are in Lake Mead and now I suspect that everyone who has been there will have to have there boat chloroxed or quarantined. Check it out:

I am exaggerating, but I am confident that there will be some major steps to try and control this little beastie.

I spoke with a person on the phone about this yesterday.

I didn't understand the problem until she explained it to me. They are microscopic and can enter your water intake and attach to the inside of your engine. they can then grow and clog up your whole system. It doesn't sound like the biggest concern is the exterior of your boat (like I thought). It is with the problem of them entering your engine.

The only things that she said would kill it is salt water, 30 days totally dry or 400 deg. heat.

I don't know if a sea strainer, mentioned in other threads, would help. What about going to a closed loop cooling system?

Until then, I think I will empty my drain plugs each time after boating. That way they won't be in a constant water pool inside the motor.

Mussels taste pretty good steamed, and in gumbo. Be careful, they spit.

These are the ones you guys have, zebra on the left, quagga on the right
