At idle do you mean sitting still? @ 5mph there is a considerable difference. The prop wash pushes the exhaust at least 15+ feet behind the boat. The nice thing about idle is that it is much quieter (is quieter a word?).

Ya know, if you're just sitting there idling, obviuously it's going to bubble right back up to the surface. As soon as you put it in gear, it goes away. The prop wash pushes it right back. It's kind of funny, before I had the FAE, I would let the boat idle all the time. Now that I have the FAE, I'm almost hyper-critical about leaving the boat running. I found a solution though. As soon as I come to a stop, I shut the boat off.

No, "more quite" was the answer we were looking for. I'm sorry, but we have to send you home empty handed.

Are you sure you didn't mean "more quiet"?

Stationary, the CO levels in the boat are about the same with or w/o FAE. On the swimplatform, they are about the same as the exhaust is still exiting right under you.

@ 5mph, in boat levels drop and swimplatform levels drop also, but were still way above the max short term exposure levels of 200PPM (on swimplatform).

Thats why anyone can interpret these results and state what they want. At 5 mph without FAE the concentration was 1137 ppm and with FAE it was 267 ppm. Yes above the 200 ppm. But what would you rather be sucking, the higher concentration without or the 76% lower concentration with? Again I said I would not say anymore so this is really it.

That is why everyone should do the research and make up their own minds if this is an option they want to purchase( I have said this 3 times)

My next post is this thread will be when I hear back from Fresh Air Exhaust if they agree to another group buy.

Don't get me wrong, I want one....but the cost vs. what it does doesn't seem justified. I already contacted the manf about one for my model, and he told me the price was going up to $400 this year. I would buy one for $150. That seems like a fair price. It has minimal engineering, minimal parts cost, and minimal production time. Figure $50 in parts, and $60 in labor, and $40 for equipment upgrades, equity whatever, and the company would still be making profit. I have a hard time spending $400 on a few aluminum elbows, a funnel, and some flat bar.

I'm in complete agreement with ya SP. Looking at what you get versus cost just doesn't add up. In essence all your doing is re-routing the exhaust, no exotic engineering, no big performance claims, no bling (unless you count polish SS). $150-175 I can see, $400 no way. I'd like to have one too, but not at that price.

We recently purchased our 2000 21V after owning a sterndrive for some years. We've only had it out twice, but the first things we noticed was how much louder it was and the exhaust fumes were strong. I just finished installing an FAE, also. It is all stainless steel, not aluminum, and the tubes are powder coated black. The welds are smooth and there were no jagged edges anywhere. It was relativley easy to install. The material costs would probably be more like $150. and I certainly couldn't make it myself and look as good as it is. I got it for $355, just before the prices went up. We usually have 7 or 8 people in our boat so I'm hoping it is quieter (yes, it is a word). The exhaust should be pushed down into the water, much like our sterndrive. We never smelled the exhaust in our sterndrive even in the jump seats on either side of the engine. Yes, there is no performance gain, but what is the performance gain in a Perfect Pass? Now there is something that is overpriced. Quieter, less fumes, smooth pull - what's it worth?

Spharis, how about you design one and we do a group buy from you? Other than the stainless parts that bolt to the transom, the rest is probably found at your local hose supply house.
$400 is pushin it for me, I liked it when I read $300 with the discount.

The entire FAE kit is stainless and most is not available at your local hardware store.
But, it's not that hard to find the parts:
                              McMaster Carr - (16) 3" SS hose clamps - $19.
                              3' x 5/16" SS threaded rod - $ 6.92
                              3' x 1/2" SS round tubing - $15.63
                              Go2Marine - 3' x 3" flexible exhaust hose - $11.05
JC Whitney - 1 set SS header reducers - $39.99
(Note: not the correct part, but similar configuration to the flange pipes)
                              eBay - 3' x 3/4" SS square tubing - $13
                              3' x 3" x .065 SS tube - $52.00 (includes shipping)
                              local store SS screws,washers & lag bolts - $ 6.00
                              ?? nozzle - ??
                              Total $163.59 + ?? + shipping

                              Next is cutting,angle cutting,deburring,drilling,welding,grinding,powder coating.
I'm collecting parts for a hot shower and heater system and can weld, but I elected not to tackle this one.

Nice job on the research. The $300 price tag begins to seem resonable, assuming you can get it for $300.
