    Boating Experiences

Lets share some funny and or unusual boating experiences you have witnessed.

One thing I LOVE to do is sit by the boat ramp and watch people try and launch and/or recover their boats. Always funny to see some inexperienced boaters launch their boat. And the best is when the people in the ramp next to you have their boat practically backwards and uyou pull up drive on and drive away. One time I watched this guy's wife pull off their I/O and after doing so got distacted and the boat drifted back in towards the ramp and went to move forward and hit the prop on the concrete. Many times I have people not set their brake and they step out of the car as it rolls down the ramp. The thing thats common is the wife in the boat and the husband trying to drive the boat from the ramp, and they get into an arguemnet right there on the ramp. And then again you have the ones that are actually pretty brave and clever. I was waiting for my dad to arrive at the ramp with the trailer and I was watching this man back down two trailers at once, one behind the other. He drove it down real deep, then the I/O drove on real slow over the other PWC trailer. They secured it down drove the car up a little and then pulled on the PWC. That was something I never saw before.

    So what have you witnessed?

One of the best places to be a ramp watcher is Site 6 in Havasu. Not only does a crowd from to watch but the stuff that happens there is hillarous.

The lake of the Ozarks is another great place to find some real idiots. Not as much as an atmosphere as Havasu though. At the resort we stay at the ramp is really tricky. Its eroding away and should be replaced, on the left side it just falls off. So you have to maneuver perfectly around that and get down the rest of it which is just wide enough. Then theres a rock wall right on the right side you have to avoid as well. Its funny seeing how people cope with that.

          True.

Folks set up lawn chairs and drink beer watching many inexperienced and drunk boaters launch and retrieve at Site 6.

I wonder how many of those "stupid people" had troubles because they were so nervous because of the crowd?

in hannible one time a group of collage kids where out on daddys new boat (aprox24 bowrider)they drove it on the trailer and tried to pull it out with an s-10 and couldnt pull it all the way out but got it complete lt out of the water so they hooked up there friends jeep and you'd think they'd run into each other but no they both got tractoin at the same time and yanked the trailer out from under the boat like the table cloth trick where you pull the cloth out and the plates and glasses stay there they forgot to tie it down so they push this beautieful boat down the ramp and then had to get the trailer under it quick because it started to sink! the ended up getting it out...luckily it was an i/o so the out drive kicked up a little but cracked the transom!

One of the classics was 2 summers ago. I just get my boat out and this huge crane comes in and the ramp is shut down. Ends up a guys with his Jet Ski (lake lice) has it in the bed of his NEW truck. He backs his NEW truck down so that the tail gate is open and at the water level (back end is in the water). He bounces the Jet Ski out of the truck and when the ski comes off and is in the water the truck starts to slide down the ramp as the back end of the truck starts to float up so needless to say the truck ends up about 35 feet out in the middle of the launch area about 12 feet deep. 500 miles the truck had on it!!! We sat around and watched this monster crane bring it back up. My buddy was able to get his boat out in time so he was taking the divers to the truck and assisting with the recovery.

We almost drove up the back end of a pontoon while heading home after watching fireworks. No stern lamp, it wasn't till he made a slight turn and I saw a bow light.

Saw an Avalanch get it's front bumper/grill ripped off when the truck & trailer parked next to it cut to soon while pulling down to the ramp.

Watched girl boading on a kitchen table and chair on day

The last one on there, about the first mate chucking the anchor in without the rope attached to the boat...seen it, twice in one year by the same dude. The first time I swam down and got the rope for him. The second time I watched, beer in hand as he continually swam down for it. I sort of forgot to tell him that he was in 45 feet of water...silly me, must have been the beer.

Ok, what happened here was drunk guy returning from party cove late at night. Driving at probably close to full speed on his 45 foot Sea Ray. Nearly missed a bridge support just before running aground on a golf course. He and the girls on board with him were injured, he fled the scene and the women had whiplash and cuts and bruises. The next couple days that cove was a popular anchoring spot.
