I used 3/16" bungee cord for my mods to the Wake Design racks and it worked great.

Hey 'Duner where'd ya get the bungee cord and crimps? I've the WD racks too and they're likely to break any time!

I love it when you post, that avitar does it for me every time.
I searched everywhere to find black 3/16" bungee cord-Ace, Home Depot, Lowes, any nobody had that size, much less in black. So I robbed the cords that hold on my tire covers for our RV. They were the exact size and length. I even reused the small hog rings that were on the cords. I was able to find 3/16" bungee cord on ebay in 50 and 100 foot rolls for about 15 bucks. No to bad but I needed it for this past weekend.
I don't think you can use any larger cord due to the hole size you need to drill. I think I was on bit size away from 1/4".
I couldn't find the hog rings that small, but only tried the same places as the cord. An upholstry shop might have em. The new tie downs worked great and much easier to use. Good luck.....

'Duner, were you able to crimp the hogrings sufficiently without the special pliers? I really don't want to have to buy them just for this!

So T* is that 45" after looping and crimping or just a 45" piece overall?

One of our Scout leaders bought some by the foot from West Marine to replace the bungees on our 10X20 "portable garage" tent. I think it was under sailboat rigging.

Hey Chptril try camping and marine supply houses. I just found some on the net by searching "bulk shock cord", most places sell it by the foot. I found some cool red cord to match the tower since my racks are black, what the hell i like being different!

Cool, Thanks. I need to do my own bungees too.

Hey here's a better one with some different end solutions.

Look in the link i just sent and you'll see 1/4" black loop connectors, so if you go with 1/4" it eliminates the hogrings for the WD rack mods! Cool! I'm ordering as we speak!

You won't find 3/16" material cheaper than this. .99/yard and 2.00 shipping. Keep in mind that the hole required for the 1/4" cord is larger than 1/4" and will not leave much aluminum after the hole is drilled.

I used a pair of channel locks and they worked fine. The trick is finding very small hog rings.

I went over to WakeDesign's office last week and picked up their retrofit for the rubber to elastic bungie. I was charged $20 per rack and it is a clean simple replacement. They fit exactly like the rubber ones, it has a nice sewn on tab to pull the loop over the hook on the fork, and these will never turn black.

I know that we shouldn't have to buy them when the original were garbage, but this is a nice looking, clean set-up verses a do-it-yourself look (no offense guys). Just an option.
