My guess is that care and speed while loading will help alot. That is why my son loads and I pull out.

One other thing that we do when loading on the trailer is to have people in the boat grab the guide posts and attempt to center the bow. This, of course is good up to 14 mph. Any faster and your on your own...Comment

You might look for a smaller head stainless screw at home depot or somewhere and replace them. Then they would countersink a little deeper. You could also wrap the foam with something at that height (rubber from a bike tire tube or something to resist the damage better. Just thinking out loud.
