My guess is that care and speed while loading will help alot. That is why my son loads and I pull out.

seriously though, if you run your fingers down the RR, every screwhead will catch your finger. You might look for a smaller head stainless screw at home depot or somewhere and replace them. Then they would countersink a little deeper. You could also wrap the foam with something at that height (rubber from a bike tire tube or something to resist the damage better. Just thinking out loud.
