    Securing the steering cable???

Hi, newb here. I just bought a 2000 21V Rider's Edition with 460 hours on it. I've been going through here and reading a lot of good info about steering cable issues. So, the previous owner obviously had the steering cable replaced a couple times or more and now it sits on top of the fuel tank (for easy replacing next time I assume). What I've noticed though is that the steering cable is basically free-floating around on top of the fuel tank other than being connected to the rudder arm and the steering wheel. Shouldn't the cable be secured somehow in the distance between the steering wheel and rudder??? Should there be mounting brackets somewhere? The looseness of the steering cable under the dash is causing it to move around and hit the underside of the ignition switch. It's actually made the small plastic frame crack at the ignition switch. I can grab the cable and slide it to a position so that it doesn't hit anymore, but after about an hour of riding it slides back into rubbing into the ignition switch.

Thanks in advance for your swarthy opinions.
