    Vdrive shaft, trying to learn!

Hey guys! Are there any Vdrive shaft experts out there? I am trying to learn more about maintenance and function. The boat (2001 21v) runs perfect...no issue there.

But when I was detailing the boat today I noticed that the propeller does not spin freely. It took two hands and some effort and once it budged I got a squeal so I left it alone.

I have never had an issue but I would like to understand why! I googled it and there is A LOT of contradicting info out there so now I’m in 100% research mode!

They all do that when the shaft is dry and out of the water. Once in the water it will lubricate the strut bushing and spin freely. I had the same reaction a few years back when one of the guys on this forum told me that was normal.

Mine is the same way out of the water. Perhaps someone else will chime in and answer the part about it being stiff to turn while out of the water even though it's in neutral. Also, welcome to the Forum. There are a lot of very knowledgeable guys on this form that love to share their expertise and knowledge with all of us. When you get a chance post up pictures of your boat we all love to see pictures. Have fun with your new vessel get out on the water with your family and enjoy.
