A Word of Caution for Boats Still in Storage During COVID.

    Hi Fellow Tige Owners,

I’ve leaned on this this form for many years as I’ve worked through the various issues that seem to plague boat owners. Unfortunately, my family and I have been dealt another blow that I never saw coming. In 2015 I undertook a big project to upgrade the stereo system on our 2003 21i from stock to custom. This included adding a dual battery setup, Perko switch, and an onboard dual battery charger. The fun stuff included 6 Kicker KM65s with LEDs, a 10 kicker sub, two Kicker KM8/LED tower speakers with chrome bullet housings. I powered all of my new toys with two Kicker Marine amps, a 400.5, and an 800.5. The icing was the wet sounds light controller, and the Kicker independent volume controls.

I spent thousands on equipment, and a week over the 4th of July to do all the work. I also relied heavily upon this form to make sure the work came out right. It saved me a ton of money on the labor based on what I was quoted by installers.

Needless to say, we loved the results, and my kids especially loved having the great sounding tunes, and lights.

With nothing but time on our hands since Covid, I went to get my boat out of storage on Monday to prep for the coming year.

Sadly, some worthless piece of trash stole all of my onboard speakers, my sub, and my two amps. They were in and out quick, unscrewed all the screws, cut all the wiring they were gone. Even with cameras, the Storage Facility hasn’t been that helpful. The police are investigating, and hopefully that will prove fruitful.

Long story short, keep an eye on your boats if they are in storage, there are many people looking to make a quick buck right now, and high dollar stereo equipment is an easy way.

On the bright side, this creates an opportunity for an upgrade!!

    Take care,
    Chuck

Total bummer! The Minneapolis area had a problem a couple years ago with somebody going to all the local dealers (Tige, Malibu, MC)and stealing amps. He did get caught eventually. Hopefully insurance covers it and you can be back on the water enjoying your boat with your family soon.

Ya, that's really sh!tty. Storing my boat in my driveway years passed this was always the biggest fear of mine. One of the most expensive things I own sitting under a tarp and canvas with thousands of dollars worth of stereo and other gear. I don't live in a bad neighborhood but we have had our issues none the less. I'm really happy that it now gets to live inside our garage year round since we did our renovation last spring.

Man that totally sucks. That is really a POS. I've always been worried about my boat sitting on the lift All Summer Long with the high-end speakers that are obvious. I would imagine that someone in the boat world would have been the one taking those speakers and would know someone that would either buy them or they would use them themselves. Perhaps you will see them or hear about them at one of your local lakes.

Man so sorry about that. Just reading that really pisses me off, I can't stand dirty low life scumbag thief's, really chaps my you know what. I hope the dirt bags are caught and prosecuted. As a victim of theft myself I truly understand. In my situation the detectives did absolutely nothing in my case even with me finding some the stuff, they did zero investigating, they too were worthless and seemed as if they didn't give a damn themselves. Again, sorry......
I don't want to go to work, take me wake surfing instead!

Those are the sorts of cases where if you find the guy, you don't get the police involved... you and some friends just take him out behind the storage building and 'splain things to him. And make sure he sees you copying his ID so he knows you know where to find him if anything else goes missing. "We won't care if YOU didn't take it, we'll be holding YOU responsible."
