    Help, where do I start?

    2006 22ve. PCM 330 Exc.
Last outing of the season last year, November, cruising around 30, belt broke. Engine shut down, got towed to the dock. Put it up for the winter and just got it out and did all the yearly maintenance.
Changed impeller, fuel filter, ran it for 30 minutes or so to warm the oil up, then changed the oil. Seemed to be running fine. After oil change it didn’t want to start back up. And upon turning the key back on, tach alarm starts going off. Digital readout is all pound signs. Had to manually throttle up while wife turned the ignition to get it to run. Ran a little rough. Thought maybe the fuel was the issue since I had not put any stabilizer in it. So I added some fuel conditioner and topped it off with supreme, took it to the ramp to run some of the new fuel and additive through it. It didn’t want to start at the ramp. So I get some starter fluid and throttle it manually to try and get it started. Starter fluid does nothing. Finally get it to start after several attempts, holding throttle wide open. Runs very rough.
So read about some of the similar issues others are having. Check the fuel pressure. Holding at 56. Check all of the engine grounds and clean them up. Still the same issue. Will start, but now goes into limp mode upon start and will not go above idle, which is only ~600.
Going to order plugs tomorrow, get them changed out. But seems like there’s got to be something else. Tach is still reading on perfect pass gauge.
Just looking for ideas before I take it to a shop.

An 06 Ve with a PCM? Interesting.

Yeah. Dealer said they hadn’t seen one either.

The only manuals I can find for a pcm 330 are from Nautique.

Also a good question for Dom at Forts, but do not think he has been active since they got out of boats.

Any chance you are getting water on top of your pistons? Hydro locking. I had a similar experience years ago but mine completely hydro locked and when I would turn the key it would not turn over.

How would that happen? What is the remedy?

I thought maybe I had disconnected or hit something, but I have studied everything and can’t find anything. Try the plugs next. See what happens.

If I remember correct my mechanic took off the water jackets and replaced the seals between the engine and the water jackets. Mine also hydro locked after being dewinterized. It started and ran great for a short period of time then started running rough so I turned it off and when I tried to restart the motor would not turn over.

I have the 07 24ve but with the marine power engine. Now this may be or may not be similar however others fought this grimlen before. My symtoms were the same. Tried everything. Ran good at the shop. Out on the water not so much. The fix finally came down to a wire conector that attaches to the high presure pump was not making good contact. This is down close to where you were working. It was tight enough to stay on but gave gremlins for many times on the lake. Dealer never figured it out. Someone here on the forum had similar issues. Fuel presure is good till irt goes to limp mode. I thought i would check it out. The. Wire was connected but when I moved it it came loose. A small pinch with pliers and never had the issue again. Simple fix that gave many headaches. The connector is the circle type that plugs up to a threaded screw. Good luck.

^^^ Typical gremlin. Something tiny. Something simple. Nice find really. It would be nice to have a database of odd problems, bugs, ghosts in the machine.

I highly doubt it would be plugs. Plugs don’t tent to fail in unison. One or two, sure, maybe. Not eight. Did you pull the plugs out of it?

They were supposedly all MP 340s? I’m pretty sure my that’s what’s in my buddy’s’06 22Ve. Possible refit?

Going to pull the plugs anyway. Willing to bet they are the originals. Trying to get an engine diagram, check everything I can before I pay to get a diagnostic done. Thought about draining the fuel to rule that out, but if it was the fuel it should have lit up when I sprayed starter fluid in the intake. It did nothing.

I was just curious what the plugs look like.

Don’t look horrible. Definitely been in there a while. All dry. Got them swapped out, didn’t change anything, but I didn’t have high hopes anyway.IMG_0299.jpg
