I am looking for advice on how to care for my teak swim platform. I have always put teak oil on my swim deck but seems like I must reapply each time I use the boat. Do you guys stain them? I would like mine to look better longer so please lend some advice.

We had a teak platform on our first Tige and my wife loved it after I followed the recommendations I found on here. There are many different approaches, but I believe the advice I chose to follow truly was the best approach and lasted the longest. You will need a disc sander, a dremel with sander heads, star brite teak oil and one of these applicators https://www.worldpaintsupply.com/old...ad-applicator/. Start off with 80 grit discs and sand everything down. Use the dremel to get the hard to reach, in between areas. Keep working from the there to 100, until your comfortable with the smoothness. Be careful not to go too smooth though. Once everything is completely sanded, use the teak oil one time, wait 24 hours, reapply, wait 24 hours, etc. until the swim step no longer takes the oil (7 or 8 times). It will be beautiful, but slippery the first couple of times you take her out. We did this every other year. The in between years you can get away with reapplying 1 or 2 coats. Good luck.

I am a fan of Watco Teak Oil. Should be easy to locate at Lowe's or Home Depot

Here are a couple of threads I found, performing a search. Including D&P's nice work.

I'm a huge fan of the Watco Teak Oil and lambs wool applicator. I hit is with 100 grit, 1 coat of oil, it looks like new and lasts the whole summer. This year i'm going to try the Watco Tung oil, Gumby used it on his and I like to grip better that teak oil.RLMWE8337.jpgIMG_6329.jpgAttached FilesLast edited by mwaite09; 04-13-2020, 07:00 PM.

A good cleaning prior to the oil, is important. You need to get the pores open to soak up the oil. Lots of coats. Keep applying coats of oil, till the teak stokes taking it.Mikes Liquid Audio: Knowledge Experience Customer Service you can trust-KICKER WetSounds ACME props FlyHigh Custom Ballast Clarion LiquidLumens LEDs Roswell Wave Deflector And More

I love how teak oil enhances the color and grain of my furniture. With its durability, I didn’t think twice before buying it. The product description is right when it says that it’s ideal for boats. I would normally go sailing with my boat all summer long. Thus, I like how it prolongs the life span of the teak wood while blocking mold and mildew.
