Recreational motorboats not allowed under Michigan’s stay-at-home order
Most of our local lakes are attached to provincial parks which they just closed last week which means no boating as well. Sucks for sure, especially with the string of nice weather we've been having.
Seems like boating would be a perfect activity for a family in these times. Actually better than being cooped up inside your home, thanks to the fresh air and sunshine (both of which have been touted hard recently as "natural disinfectants"). And if it's a family activity, it's the same people you'd be in close quarters with anyway. I could see a restriction to "only same household members on a boat" but beyond that what's the justification?
ID, I'm right there with ya but I suspect here it's not having the resources to patrol mead and if it was open you can bet there would be a$$hats out there tying up or having a party somewhere. for reference see pics of florida/georgia and the sandbar parties that they broke up. or the kids in cali driving 50 miles for booze. or the religious zealots that continue to hold services. or on and on and on. easier to close than police.
they shut down all the golf courses here as well. most were doing 1 cart per person, 30 minute tee time intervals and only 1 person at a time on tee or green. how much more distancing can you get. now the courses are full of walkers getting exercise and nothing being done about that since they are getting "fresh air".
I get that we are supposed to distance but if you are not interacting with anyone makes zero sense to close some things but like everything else, the few ruin it for the many.....
If the goal really is to enforce "social distancing", why are the restaurants allowed to be open? After schools and churches, I can't think of a single type of facility worse for "social distancing". Since there are 2-3 meals per day, and countless unknown people handling food at every step in the supply chain, the combination of frequency and people-count would seem to make restaurants a high priority for closure. Granted you can't stay there and eat... but even with carryout you're in an enclosed space with multiple employees and strangers. People are exchanging cash, touching credit cards, handing bags and other food containers back and forth. Doing strictly drive-thru or delivery only slightly reduces the intercontact rate. Do you know who and how many people have touched the bag? The internal containers? The receipt? And it's not just the people at that restaurant - what about the factory that made the bags and containers? The people who packed them at the factory, the people who handled those containers along the way, and the Sysco driver who dropped them off?
By comparison, family boating is a Class 1 cleanroom in terms of risk.
It's hard to take these efforts seriously when one of the single highest-contact activities, which occurs multiple times every single day, is barely mentioned. I'll know our leaders are serious when they close the restaurants. Until then, well, not so much.

I'll know they are serious when they shut down all construction. right now still hundreds going to work on raider stadium with 2 confirmed cases onsite. last the news reported, gov. is saying it could cause major irreversible harm if it doesn't open on time with football season so it's "essential" along with all other construction including residential
