Are you running any bow weight? I bought a bow sac this year, but haven't tried it out yet.
Yes I run a lot of bow weight. Goofy side likes it more than regular. I run a 400 on each side in the bow they fill probably about 250 just a guess though. Always have both full plus about an extra 600 in lead when on the goofy side and move half the lead or a little more back when on regular side.
Very interesting on your setup and weight placement. While I experimented with a suck gate, I found the rear weight to work best at about what you have 100% on Surfside 50% 60% on the other side. However if we ever added bow weight it did not help making the wave any better. The 24 + 22 Ve's have always responded best with listening and all the weight in the back corner with very little to zero in the front. As you add front weight the height of the wave diminishes and it only slightly elongates however you lose the push that happens with ballast in the front. IMHO. One of our members, ragboy, did extensive testing on the 24 v e they spent hundreds of hours doing so and it always came up with all the weight in the back corner making the best wave with good push and height. Now with your gate the ballast placement maze change. Can't wait to see a video of your wave once you get it dialed in.
^^I agree and I disagree. You are correct that the ve's like it all in the surf corner with less offside weight while being dumped to the rub rail. Regular I agree with this statement the most but even that is dependent on weight set up. I run my bow maybe half full on the regular side. For goofy this is where I would disagree with you and side with exactly what Chugh2o said above. Goofy loves bow weight. I run my bow sac full plus I'll throw another 300-400lbs of lead up front when my wife surfs.
Where the gate helps in this set up is by cleaning up the wave and it adds length overall.
Yes I used to not be able to run any bow weight because I didn’t have enough rear weight. Once I gutted my lockers it made for much larger sacs in the rear compartments which made me use more bow weight.
So admittedly I have not set up the goofy side that much however while testing I was trying to get the boat evenly weighted so that we could do transitions. I do surf both sides and was looking to be able to do transitions and worked with a set up accordingly. We do not normally have many goofy Riders so do not set it up that way too often. And when we do I get to Surf that side and really enjoy it. I will give your tips a try when I get out later this month.
This is the gates with the boat evenly weighted. Wave is obviously a little washy on the top but not as bad as I would have thought. A slight list to the surf side cleans it right up and makes a great wave. I will try to upload a video of a transfer on the fly while evenly weighted soon.
