I have never towed with the Bimini extended and I have towed both with the bimini in the boot strapped to the tower and completely off the tower in the boat. I have towed it with the boot on and strapped to tower for several hundred miles with an average speed of 75-80 mph with no problems. I made sure it was strapped tight to the tower.
Definately in the boot and strapped to the tower. I towed it once at about 50mph for a short distance and tore a support screw out of the tower. Never again!
Sounds like me!
I have tried to make it from Havi back down to my storage in Parker with the Biimini up!
you are brave!! I wouldn't even think about towing it in the extended position. Wow.
No, let me clarify, it was not in the extended position but wrapped up in its cover and strapped to the tower. Most manufacturers recommend against this because they claim the vibration causes the poles to rub together and wear down the fabric. Now that I have forked out some serious cash for a new bimini, I will probably take it off the tower and put it inside the boat for long trips. I would only tow it in the extended position for short distances if I knew I was going to go slower than 45 mph. I have never towed yet with a bimini extended.

Aldee likes my repeat business!
I made that trek 5 or 6 times from the Springs to Anchor Inn with the bimini up with no problems. I did keep the speed under 50 though. What damage have you had?
Tell me about it. The cover now gets bungeed in three places to make sure it won't unzip again. I'm thinking about getting an extended bimini over this winter break.

"the plural of boo is booze."
Thanks . Problem wasn't tearing out any screws, it was that the zipper unzipped itself.
Are you talking about the boot came unzipped? I've never thought about that happening
