2001 21V riders edition seat removal

I am going to have my interior reupholstered. Problem I’m facing is removing the back seat cushions. I know there has to be a stud with a nut on the back securing them to the boat but there isn’t any room to get your arm back there to find it. Has anyone removed the seat backs and if so how did you do it.

I have circled the bolt locations. That back corner is made from three pieces. This is what they look like. The yellow piece at the top is the nailer. It was 3/4" material.

Awesome and thanks for all the info. I and trying to understand the drawing you sent. Is the picture you attached the seat backs for the back of the boat toward the engine bay? Do you also have the mounting locations for all the other seat backs? Have you removed them before? Was it just super difficult to get your hands between the inner and outer fiber glass hull?

You can get to all the nuts on the upholstery. I'm not saying its easy, I just know it can be done. The boat deck and hull were mated before the upholstery went in.

Most smaller panels only had two bolts in them. You should always start with easy to access panels first, Then you will see more hole opening behind the upholstery to put your hand through. The two rear corners should be easy to pull. Then you can do the starboard side panel. Then do the piece by the observer then do the port side lean back.

For the bow, pull the speakers. Then you can access the front bolts on the side panels. Then the back bolts are accessed through the bow storage areas. Then you can remove the bow nose by accessing its bolts through the speaker holes.

I really appreciate all of the advice. I was racking my brain trying to find a way to get the seat backs out. I’m basically trying to restore the boat and have been finding little things here and there that have been causing me problems.

Another problem I came across is the previous owner mounted the subwoofer and amp. It’s between the drivers kick plate and the storage compartment behind the bow. You can access it from a small trap door on the starboard side but it’s somehow wedged in there. I can’t find any mounting bolts or holes on the drivers kick plate. Didn’t know if it was a factory placement of amp and subwoofer.

I have the same boat and reupholstered last winter. I used an electric impact ratchet with a deep socket to reach all the nuts (and plenty of f-words). I don't think I could have reached with a regular wrench or ratchet. The rear corner seat backs on my boat have a couple wood screws in the rear lockers and two nuts posts on the side walls. I climbed into the locker and could barely reach the front post with the electric ratchet. That was the worst part. After you have those back corners out, work your way forward. The rest are little easier to reach but it's still not any fun.

The bow seat backs are a lot easier to get out. I could reach all the nut posts from the speaker holes, and there were some wood screws in the helm lockers.

If I was going to do it again, I would invest in an extended reach air or electric ratchet. Something like this:

Bandpass box that has a round port at the drivers feet?

Doesn’t appear to be a band pass box just a normal up firing subwoofer with a 6x9 port near the top of the kick plate. I’ll take a pic later

Just making sure it wasn't Cobe's old boat. Haven't seen it since 2000 and have always wondered where it went. Your sub would have been aftermarket. Cobe's was the only one from that era that was factory installed.

I did it myself with vinyl and a sewing machine from Sailrite. There's not many upholstery shops around here. The off-the-hip quotes I got were in the $3k range. I spent around $1000 for the materials and sewing machine. The foam was still in good shape so I only re-skinned everything except the drivers seat and dash.

Phase 1 complete after about 10,000 f bombs and a few beers. Dropping off to the upholster today.
