    Tower up? or Down?

Just curious if you all prefer to travel with your towers in the upright position, or if you lower them when trailering. Advantages and disadvantages you have found to either way of traveling.

I travel with my tower up.

In fact I have never taken it down.

It gets some bugs on it.

Don't most manf recommend towing only with the tower up?

I leave the tower up. It's not real stable when it's collapsed and I'd be worried about extra pressure on just 2 mounts.

I keep my tower up. Fuel mileage sucks ,10mpg, if we take it out of town. Put it down once and didn't like how it rested on the seat

Alway up. It does get kindof buggy but they clean off and I do not have to worry about the tower rubbing holes or leaving marks on my seats.

up always, unless I have a garage that I can put it into, then I lower it right before backing it in. When I get to design my house, it will have a garage with a door big enough so i can just back it in.

The bugs come right off with one of those scotch bright pads. That is if you have the polished alumn. Like my tower is.

Our tower is always up unless its in the garage. I dont like it laying on the motor cover and it takes up too much room when we put coolers and such in there.

i read somewhere some time that a guy used to tow with his tower down all the time. Said it gave hime like 5 mpg better. He went and got some thick foam that it sits on. Pretty nice I thought, but then again, not to sure about it.

Always up, didnt ever think the tower would effect my milage like the 3000 pound boat attachted to my truck would though. I get about 13mpg when towing. Figured that out on a trip from texas to kentucky lake.

i can vary my MPG based on speed. keep it at 1800 rpms, get just under 18, it just gets worse from there.

There is no way that having the tower up when hauling would cause you to lose 5 mpg due to drag.

There is very little surface area there to cause resistance.

Hauling my 3600 lb camper only caused me to lose 4 mpg over being non loaded and there is some serious drag.

Big fat flat faced speakers cans could. Resistance increases exponentailly above 55mph.
