In this photo, the boat that is sticking up about 4 slips from the end is my Uncle's boat, directly behind it is our other Uncle's boat, completely submerged. The submerged one is a 45 footer, the upright one is 38 foot I think

Every boat on that dock is at least a 25 footer.

Apparently the lake is now closed, the water patrol is afraid boat wakes will topple other docks that are unstable

That sucks. About 3 years ago, we had that happen at one of our local marinas. One of the damaged boats was insured by my wife. Last year, they were calling for another snow storm so they pulled the boat out and took it home. The snow storm ended up being mostly ice, and an over weighted tree came down on it. Totaled it this time!

Wow! That is going to be expensive to repair /replace all those boats.

On the Uncle's Dock alone, we estimated 16 boats (maybe as many as 22) average price ~250K so $4 mill or about that in insurance claims.

                  Dog,

I think they got just under a foot of snow and Ice.

Ok, that makes sense. The combination of snow and ice causes a lot of damage. Usually when you have roof collapses, it's from the combination, not just one or the other.

I remember being without power for a week one winter on Long Island when I was growing up. It really sucked not having heat or a way to take a shower. We had to heat up water using a camping stove to keep the fish in our fish tank alive.

Sorry to hear that, that is going to be a pain getting dealing with the claims and repairs.

In Missouri..especially south of the Missouri River, when we get snow, it is usually preceded by an ice storm. We get about 2 each winter, and the Snow and Ice are generally gone in 2-4 days. I can remember being without power for about a week when I was younger, we cooked and heated water on our Woodstove.

This storm moved in pretty quick, the temps dropped 30° in 30 minutes here, after raining for most of the day, so everything was wet, then froze, then got a layer of sleet/rain that froze, then Snow! LofO got the same, just much more snow than we did.

I love snow, but man I hate the ice. People don't respect it, especially while driving.
