    Dash hour meter

My dash hour meter used to read 118 hours (and counted up). I just looked at after a long weekend at the lake. It now reads 8.5.
    1. I changed my start batt while at the lake. Did this reset the counter?

    2. I am having a limp mode issue now. Could this be related?

    3. I don’t see a mechanical gauge on the boat. I’m guessing getting hours read is the only way to find out hours?

True engine hours are stored in the ECM. Yes, those gauges are known to reset under certain low voltage conditions. Their memory is volatile.

It is the commander gauge that caused it to reset back to zero. You will have to get someone with diacom to pull the actual engine hours.

Limp mode can be caused by a few things. Potentiometer out of range on the shifter, low oil, bad connection on the shifter. What have you checked?
      Oh Yeah!

Thanks for the replies. I have been chasing the gremlin for a bit. Changed the battery for a new one thinking that might be the issue. Still occurred.

I was going to post this in another limp mode thread, but:
Oil pressure and temp seem rock solid. I haven’t checked the throttle pot yet. It seems like the limp mode has to do with engine load.
I can run all day at 3500-4000 rpm (very little engine load as I have a 12 pitch prop), but when I give it a lot of throttle surfing , or tubing, this seems to cause the mode. I guess this could be a throttle position error, but I’m thinking the next step is to have the codes run (get the engine hours anyway) and see what it is throwing.

Does this seem like the logical next step?
From my search of the forum I either need to:
Rewire ecm (bad voltage source )
        Recalibrate-replace throttle pot
Have MP “reflash” ecm for higher engine loads.
Will the code tell me which one I should start with?

        Thanks for the help!
