I have an 07 24ve. It has a step down in the hull which typically results in the shaper going just below it if I'm not weighted very much or just above it if my bags are full.
I'm sure some other guys will chime in with much more experience than me. Everything thing I've read 60% rear 40% front. I just got my bags in this spring, so I am still tweaking myself. I have zero experience with your model boat.
It all depends on how deep your hull rides in the water when weighted. It the shaper is too high, you will have a big rooster tail of water coming up above the boat. If it's too low, you will barely see it. The nauticurl is pretty sleek, it may have a different effect than my homemade one.
not sure what research would say not to use a wake shaper on a RZ2.....100% add one. Brand doesn't matter, they all work the same and they all make a huge difference. Guys make their own, other buy them but 100% of everyone thats used one agree's its the right thing to do. I went with the Mission Delta because a)it floats and b) you can reverse the plate and c) build quality. In all of my research I find the position of the shaper makes the biggest difference but this agin may depend on how much weight you have in your boat. Place the wave shaper as far back as possible and as low as you can before you get to the step down of the hull. Make sure the suction cups don't go over the lip or the shaper will pop off.
Now weight, add as much in both rears (I have 1650 lbs in each rear locker) and fill them both 100%, some say do 100% surf and 80-90% non surf which is fine as well depending on people in the boat but I do 100% in both to make it super easy to switch sides. Fill up the fronts 100%. I haven't added any extra weight to the front but if you do sit a slighter larger adult up there the wave does lengthen so weight up front is a good thing. The RZ2 loves weight so don't be shy with it. With all of this weight I changed out my prop to a 1235 and added a custom taps plate to help clean the wave up a bit and with all of that the wave is amazing!
I’d agree with pretty much everything that Robmc9 had to say with one exception. The wave is definitely better when the boat has a little bit of list to it. I’d fill everything but the non surf side rear, leave it at 75-80% full. When you’re ready to switch sides you flip the rear ballast switches to top off the one and drain the other a touch, by the time you get up or have someone else change the shaper to the other side you’ll pretty much be done with the ballast exchange.
Run your taps about 3-4 on regular side and up to 5 goofy side, speed around 11.5. For the most part people can sit wherever but put the fatties on the surf side rear
Depending on the shaper you buy you can angle it slightly to promote a bit of list too. I also do this to eliminate any splashing from the shaper.
