Ya, they are definitely the hardcore firestick crew out there. He’s also talking about about putting his other flat (the red one) back on the water this year.
That will be killer, that boat screams!! We ran the one my buddy built last year, last weekend, it’s moving pretty good!! He’ll be running all next week too. Seems like we’re seeing some resurgence in flaties out there, maybe just because we’re having good water years.
Thats pretty rad. Bumped into him a few times at the Heave and got to chat with him a bit at the Gunbarrel 25 one year. Comes off as a super friendly and humble dude for guy thats so darn famous.

Ya, they are popping up more and more for sure. I love it. I’ve always got my eyes open for one. Late ‘60s, small block, thru hulls, seating for 5. Just a clean little lake boat. Unless I find either The Eradicator or The Wicked Witch. Those two seem to have vanished.
Your buddy’s looks fairly nasty. I still haven’t seen it run though. Looking forward to it.
I’m with you. Some point I’ll find one. I’m in no rush, I need a shop for my damn toys!! I’m cut off from new stuff until that happens!!
It’s finally running right.. he had some problems with blower pulleys, then he got that straight and blew the mag right off the motor, a couple of weekends ago. He made like 7-8 passes on Sunday, and is seeming pretty dialed finally!!

I’ve only talked with him a handful of times. He is very personable. We connect on many levels so there’s no shortage of things to bs about. As someone who grew up on The Blizzard of Ahhhhhhs, Maltese Flamingo, License to Thrill, etc, I was fan long before I ever met him. Never met on the mountain though. Just out in the desert.
...and yes, Kim is awesome too. Absolute sweetheart.
I’m actually surprised it took this long to flood. It’s been a very steady melt this spring with basically no rain so I think that’s where we have avoided any flooding in town.
I just said the same thing. We’re lucky, and it’s going to make for a good, long, summer, by not getting hit with spring rains..
We have to cross water to get to our camp, the rangers came and told us “we can’t get Remsa or emergency vehicles in here, so you guys are on your own. Our suggestion is for you to leave”. They’re also trying to turn campers away at the entrance, so hopefully a few will listen since there isn’t much square footage for camping right now!!

Pretty epic weekend out there, even though we didn’t keep enough heat to cook the pig through.. had to finish it on bbqs.. we had 10 boats out there, from our camp, and somewhere around 60 people. We had 11 to ourselves, since you have to cross bumper deep water for like 100’.. I went for a ride in my buddy’s flat and that thing is dialed now.. hit over 100, in small chop, real quick, it’s an insane ride, especially as a passenger. I’ve been in kinda fast boats, on fast bikes, and in fast cars, but that one crushed them all..
Rad. I got to drive to San Rafael and back. We a good time but, I’d of rather been out there for sure.
I know that exact spot you have to cross. I have no doubt it’s bumper deep. Can’t wait to go ski under some trees.
There’s a big difference between 70mph and 100mph on water. Especially in a flat. Its scary. I ran my buddy’s 930 up to 130 a couple months ago and it was dreamy. 130 in flat is a straight ‘sploded diaper.

Now is the time for the trees!! Only bad part was there is a lot more debris than I remember seeing on the water.
So damn true! I can’t stand the passenger seat in anything, which doesn’t help for that ride! And that thing hits so damn hard, full speed is almost instant. Plus there isn’t much holding you in the thing!
I can only imagine!! Seems like Shasta always has some serious stuff floating around! Bullards has had the least amount, I’ve seen this year, which they had the most last year. Guess it’s just a roll of the dice, on these high water years!
