    2006 Tige 24VE - Fuel Additive

Everytime I take the boat up to Lake Powell, about 2 days into the trip I start having issues with the boat back-firing. Only thing I could think of is I put Super unleaded fuel in the boat and on Lake Powell, only option is regular unleaded. ANyone else have this issue?

Thought about adding fuel additive when I take it up to Powell. Any recommendations if you use additive what type to use?

    Thank you.

Out of Curiosity why do you run premium?

It is a 5.7 340 hp. I believe the manual said to use premium.

Premium is not needed, but I do not see it causing the issue. Backfiring is usually related to ignition and timing. Odd that you only notice it after filling up at a particular place.

By chance, have you ever arrived with a full tank of "home" gas and had or not had the backfiring? Or no backfiring until you burn through home gas then fill up on the lake?

Yes - always fill tank at gas station on land before dropping the boat on Lake Powell. Typically do not have any issues until 2nd or 3rd day when filling tank at the Lake marina - typically Dangling Rope marina.

My buddy had been having somewhat of a similar issue with his jet boat. After running for about 10mins or so the boat would lean pop. He replaced the carb, the Fuel pressure regulator, drained the gas as he thought it may have had water in it, checked fuel pump and lines for blockages. Ended up being a bad coil which was the cheapest replacement part out of it all.lol.

Maybe bad gas? Maybe try filling at another marina or truck in your own gas and refill from your own cans.

I have the same exact boat and the same thing happened to me when I put regular unleaded gas in it. It would backfire and hesitate when I pushed the throttle. When I got back I took some extra steps to make sure it wouldn’t happen again so I drained the tank some gas tank cleaner in. Filled it back up with premium, changed the fuel filter and spark plugs. Haven’t had any more issues whatsoever. (Knock on wood as I’m leaving tonight for the lake!) Did some research and found out a lot of people with this boat had problems with regular gas.
