    Double Key Turn to Start

Last year my 2016 Z1, (56 hrs) started to give me issues starting the engine on first key turn.
Flame arrester is clean, good fuel, fuel treatment installed on 2 tanks of premium gas.

When I double key it (prime the injectors), it fires up with no problem. I just get tired doing the double key thing. The engine runs fantastic with no issues.

Question: is my (in tank) fuel pump failing? Curious if this is something to be concerned about before 5 year warranty runs out.
    Thanks

I have one other customer with this exact complaint/symptom as well. Just out of curiosity, if you run for a while, shut down for a short period(a few minutes) and try to crank again does it fire on first turn or do you still need a second cycle?? Pr is it after sitting for long periods or first start off the trailer that it needs the double key??

This is just speculation but I think that because there isnt a check valve on the line it back drains fuel into the tank when it sits.

I believe theres a few others here that have experienced similar issues as well. Curious to see what they say

I forgot I had this previous thread with no final solution.

First start up for the day... no problem of first key turn.
The problem usually happens after the engine has been running. I shut off the engine to change out riders or simply sit in water listen to music. Then it requires a double key to pressurize the injectors.
It is so embarrassing to hear the engine crank, and crank and then worry about flooding the engine.
So, I usually, just double key it to give me the peace of mind of immediate start up.

In a car, the fuel pump kind of doubles as that check valve. I'd assume these pumps do the same. So fuel getting past the pump and draining into the tank, creating a long crank/slow start can be an indication of pump failure. I tend to think this is just the type of pump they are using, but that doesn't seem right either. Why not just use Fords pump which works great in the trucks? I have a similar issue where mine cranks longer than I'd like it to. Turn the key to run and let it sit there for 3-4 seconds before turning to crank. That lets the pump run and prime the system, although it would be nice if the ECU would allow it to run a bit longer before shutting it off. Seems to help a bit, when I remember to do it.

I will wait a bit longer after first key turn before cranking it over to see if this impacts anything.

Sounds like the fuel pump to me. It's bleeding off pressure. When you start it the first time for the day, you have recently turned on the battery switch which primed the pump. After that the system should stay pressurized but its not. So the double key cycle gives the pump enough time to prime again.

As a test, I bet you could cycle the battery switch off then back on and the engine fires up the first key cycle.
            Oh Yeah!

New fuel pump and flame arrestor. The problem is still happening a few times a day on the lake. Now, it takes sometimes 3 key start attempts and the engine fires right up. Is this a vapor lock or what? I run 91 octane fuel and fuel STABILE treatment if there is water. This is on a 2016 Z1 Raptor engine. I have 170 hrs and the problem happen 3-4 time a day on the lake.
Is anyone else experiencing the same issue?

                Curious...
Where is your engine temperature reading?
