I read that the “impeller” goes on these quite often which causes overheats. Does this sound accurate?
To be clear on this, the impeller is typically designed to last one season and then be replaced. So it is something to learn how to do. Every motor is different, but basically it is a rubber wheel that sucks in water to the engine to cool it. If it fails, your motor shuts down. It's a cheap thing to replace every year. I made a video doing it on my PCM motor, but you would have to find an equivalent.
You need to get a pic of the back plate (or just remove it, it’s just attached by those four machine screws and washers) so you can read the stamped writing on it. The Jabsco and Johnson pumps can look very similar.
I would say this is the right part except mine has a rubber seal and the part on the website has a gasket. Can anyone confirm this is the correct part?
It probably contains both a rubber o ring and a gasket although it’s not pictured.
The Johnson one is pictured just the opposite and mine always come with both although I don’t need the rubber o ring.
You can message marine engine depot to confirm.
