Have you tried a different device with USB to see if it works with the touchscreen. Hate to break it to you but it might be time for a new iPod

Hey where did you find that Creedence cassette? That was stolen along with my 72 Pinto station wagon with a Realistic tape deck. LOL
Have not tried other devices in the usb, but looks like it is time for a new phone or ipod upgrade if not both.
Damn you technology...how and when did I become the old guy?

Update on Z1 connectivity...
I ended up getting a iPod 6s since that was working for Bamer, loaded music into it since that worked for him and NHarp 1, and out to the boat I went.
So the iphone's bluetooth connected immediately and through the touch screen you can play, pause, skip fwd or back.
With iphone connected to helm usb...music shows right up on touch screen with multiple user controlled options. Shuffle all songs, genre, albums, playlist or whatever configuration works best for you. This is the scenario I was looking for.
