    2017 Z1 Ipod connectivity

I recently purchased a 2017 Z1, had issues connecting Bluetooh and Ipod.
Justin sent an update file and I was then able to connect phone with bluetooth but still unable to bring up ipod on touchscreen.

Touch screen does not show anything connected at the helm USB.
The ipod shows connection to usb.
So basically only function at the helm usb is charging.

I have to use the 3mm plug above the USB to connect ipod but I have no control over the ipod through touchscreen in this configuration.
I would prefer to use the Ipod through the touch screen as this is the intended connectivity for this Z1.

    Any thoughts ?

I have had nothing but bluetooth issues on my 16 Z1. it works for a little while then disconnects. Once it disconnects it will not reconnect unless I kill the battery, wait a minute and power it back up. Then only a 50/50 shot of it reconnecting. If it doesn't then I have to dig out the USB cable and tether it. Tige replaced the head unit and it still does the same thing. No issues with it in my car or at home so I know it isn't the phone.

Justin sent an update file and then we were able to connect phone / bluetooth.
We have all of our music on a 16g ipod and it will not connect to the touch screen even after the update file.
The ipod is able to charge from any of the usb ports including the helm usb port, but will not show ipod on touch screen.

We have to use the 3mm jack on the helm usb to connect the ipod to the unit to listen to our music.
In this configuration we have to use the ipod for any controls of music...play, pause, skip foward, playlists, albums, etc..., so the ipod needs to be readily accessible.
These controls are available on the touch screen but since it will not connect, we are stuck in the 90's having to hold the ipod in one hand and drive the boat with the other so to speak.
Still waiting on a response as to correct this issue.

I had same problem so I moved all my music from my IPOD to my IPhone (using my PC) and then Bluetooth was available with IPhone. I did not think the IPOD was Bluetooth capable....

The murphy ice module USB port doesn't play well with apple products. I believe now they are stating it only charges apple products.
          Oh Yeah!

Bluetooth connects just fine with my iphone, everytime. However, if I leave the helm it starts to get poor reception. By the time I'm to the back seat I lose it. That means no music and taking pictures at the same time. I'm hoping the easy solution will be to put all my music on a thumb drive this season and just leave that plugged in. I've never used a thumb drive for music so I don't know the ins and outs of it.

It seems odd that the touch screen in AUDIO has a drop down menu with an allocation for an Ipod, even named IPOD, but nothing connects?
Just doesn't seem very innovative that Murphy would designate an IPOD location with out the ability for connectivity.

I can plug the ipod in almost any automotive vehicle and have connectivity and control of the ipod with steering wheel controls or stereo controls with the ipod tucked away out of site.
Yes, I understand boat vs car, different beasts, apples to oranges whatever. But a 2012 $10000 Chrysler the ipod works no problem, 2017 $80,000 boat i need to use the headphone jack??

At that point shouldn't it just have a 1970's 1/4" headphone jack.

I guess at the end of the day I chose to spend my money on the boat and not a smart phone that will store 1000's + of the music I want.
I don't like my phone enough to use it like that anyway...I want to enjoy my boat not my phone or pandora.

The old 2015 R20 with the Clarion head unit and MW1 remote, the ipod connected and the ipod was stashed away in the glovebox.

So if I have this correct, I can purchase another smart phone with ample amounts of storage or just keep a headphone plug nearby.
Will this be the same scenario with the Clear in the RZX20 or RZX models 2018 and up?

Unstuck, I like the idea of the thumbdrive scenario.
Again I am using an Ipod not Iphone we are able to connect phone/bluetooth with the updated file.

KoolAid, do you know if the thumbdrive would be an option that would work?

Would I have some amount of selectivity...skip, pause, play etc, with this configuration?

Does the Ipod not have blue tooth? If not get an inexpensive tablet (Ipad if its yur thing) and stream it BT with all your music.

I do not believe a thumb drive will work. Unfortunately using anything for audio through the usb port is old technology. Bluetooth is the standard currently and older tech just isn't supported. USB ports are the cigarette lighter ports of this era. Mainly used for charging and rarely used for lighting a cigarette.
                    Oh Yeah!

For what it’s worth, I have an iPhone 6s and a 2019 R23 with touch2. I am able to control music on my iPhone through the touch screen using usb.

^^^ Well Bamer makes an interesting statement...
Iphone 6 works in usb but not the ipod???

                        Chpthril,
No, it is a gen 3 or 4 so no BT.
Thanks KoolAid...damn, just updated the boat and I am still a dinosaur.
Again seems odd to allocate an IPOD designation on the unit but does not support Ipod connectivity.

At least the question is answered ??
So time to look into the world of bluetooth or the Iphone 6.

                        Thank you.

Lots of time newer software(ie touch2 software) will not be back capable with older software(ie older iPod)

Damn you technology...and I just got all my cassette tapes back in alphabetical order.
For those too young to know what a cassette is, it was a little strip of mylar film coated with an iron oxide and we would copy our vinyl records...
Just ask your grandparents they will explain it!!! LOL

                            P.S. I still love this Z1 !!!
