2018 and UP RZX3 Prop Recommendations

For those of you with 2018 and up RZX3's, what props are you digging? (to clarify, we may be trading or '17 RZX3 for a '19 RZX3).

We are at sea level, usually have a crew of ~8, Raptor 440, with a 1.5:1 tranny on the 2017 and loaded up with about 4200 lbs of ballast.

Our passage to the river is shallow, and our '17 RZX3 runs a 15" prop, and I'm trying to minimize draft as much as possible if we swap for the 2019 RZX3 and curious to see if anyone is running a 16" or 16.5" that they love.

We primarily surf, some wakeboard, and don't care about 32mph+ cruising speeds. Would love to see the motor in the low 3,000 RPM's while loaded surfing and getting some respectable GPH.....

Elevated says 17 x 17 for the new 2019 and I trust his recc, but want to get a spare anyways....

Wakemakers lists a 16×13 for heavily weighted. ACME makes a handful of 16.5 wheels in different pitches. Friendly reminder if you have the 2:1, you are shopping for 1 1/4" bores not 1 1/8".

We put some 17x17 on for customers and havent had any complaints yet, but we are mostly SC configured RZX3s.

Do you have the 2:1? If you do you’re gonna want to ditch that 15” and go to a bigger diameter.

Are you talking about going from your 15" prop to a 16 or 16.5 or are you talking about a new 18 running a 17" and going down? A smaller prop with proper pitch, is going to naturally run higher engine RPM. No way around it, you can have pulling power or low RPM, not both.

edited to clarify. My 2017 has the 15" w/ 1.5/1, and hopefully snagging a 2019, which has the option to go up to 17" w/ 2:1

Yup, dialed on the change in shaft bore dimension.

Thanks for the note that you're using that on the SC motors.

I thought the SC motors were using a smaller prop. Not the 17". Is that new?

Going for a 16” prop over a 17” is only going to save you 1/2” which to be would not be worth it. If anything it would be worse because you would be struggling to get the boat to speed, therefore in the water more before up on plane.

On your current boat assuming you have a 15x12 you could drop the rpm down a ton by changing it out if that’s all you’re looking for in a new boat.

Just to clarify...

For 2019 the SC motor is running a 1.76 reduction with big shaft. 17 inch props and bigger. We run a 17x15 at 7K feet in a zx5 and it turns 2900 at 12mph heavy.

The 2/1 400-460 options will run best with a 17x14 through 17x17 depending on elevation
