    Albuquerque NM to ???? .....

We are starting to think about next years possible vacation. We will be driving from Union, MO to Albuquerque the first week of June for a track meet. Now that we have a good sized boat we are wanting to see some other lakes. We are looking for beautiful scenery, ans especially beautiful blue water. We are willing to consider any direction from Albuquerque, but not sure if we would go much more that 8 hours further West...and obviously anywhere on the way back would be a bonus in drive time. Cabins on the Lake would be awesome, but not necessary...

What do you recommend...where would you go? Where have you been?

    thank you,

    Mike

Options galore! If I was you I would drive 6 1/2 hours to Page AZ and spend some time at Lake Powell. Check out Lake Powell Resort for your accommodations. About an 8 hour drive would get you to Temple Bar Marina at Lake Mead. Also a nice place and where the Tige owners reunion is held each year. I'd still pick Powell though.

Pretty tough to look past Tahoe for beautiful scenery and blue water. A bit of a haul from NM though.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

my mother used to hang at elephant butte lake in NM but I don't know anything about it. said it was a nice body of water.
temple bar is nice and mead is a beautiful lake- warm water in the summer and hot temps but no shade anywhere and not sure it's what you would be looking for as it relates to "cabin on the water" feel.
maybe someone from the denver area will chime in. hear there's some great lakes there.

sometimes we can find campgrounds that have cabins...they are usually cheaper than a hotel...

There is no place on earth like Lake Powell.

Lived in CO for many years and recommend Grand Lake plus everything there is to do in and around Rocky Mountain National Park. Would pay attention to weather and water temps depending on how early in June it is. Then you'll have a straight shot on I-70 all the way back home.

Another vote to head north to Lake Powell. It is the grand canyon, but full of water.
                  Be excellent to one another.

Depends on how long of a drive you want to make. Pleasant isnt too far from you, neither is Saguaro which is a little honey hole. Really neat place to spend a few days with beautiful scenery. Lake Powell needs no explanation but its rapidly getting cold and it ate a lot of boats this year in terms of hazards. I think you have a nice list. I would say go up to northern California but the really pretty scenery locations are getting to cold, tahoe and bass lake for example are sooo pretty but the snow is already falling.

At least you're sunny and in the 50's this week. We got 6" of snow at my house over the weekend and are sitting at 30* right now.
