    Switching Brands?

I am seriously considering switching brands for next year, due to many reasons I dare not mention on here, but mostly due to the wake.

I have never gotten the chance to ride behind any Tige with the factory ballast, due to most people who buy these in my area buy them more for a crossover type boat versus core wakeboarding. I tried adding weight to my 22Ve and the boat become almost undrivable and would not hold speed with speedset, not to mention the wake was still not that great.

Can someone please share experiences with 22ve or Rz2 with factory ballast and how they stack up between a MC X1/X2 and a CC SANTE 210? I really like the wake behind both brands of boats and are the two I am also considering. If I stay with a Tige I am leaning more towards the Rz.

Just looking for feedback. Any pics would be great.

    Thanks,
    John

Not sure why your boat wont ride right w/weight....how are you dispersing it and how much. It is always going to ride a little diff w/weight. the tige does throw a much wider wake than the other 2 boats you are considering, but the tige is also alot wider and deeper of a boat. if you want rz2 write up go to the second page of general discussion and see my post on my rz2 experiance, or send a pm to matt garcia it was his boat i rode behind.....that thing was sweet and way bigger than the other 2 boats you are considering....remember it is apples to apples you may want to ride the 20v if you are going to compare it to other 20's....if you go w/the m/c i'd go new x2 all the way sweet boat w/good layout.

I dont seem to have any problems with my 22ve weighted or even more weighted with a full crew. I dont have the factory ballast option (went with fat sacs instead) They are in both compartments in the back and one in the bow under the front seats.

Here is a pic of the wake. I am pleased with the way it performs.

if you want to see other pics with the wake at different times check out this link I have loads of pics. Pics

Keep in mind that the pics have lots of diffrent rider levels so the ballast are empty and taps up to reduce the wake for some of them.

          It is from Beaver Lake.

BD--I love that picture. You should get it framed.

            Jpretti,

The Tige stock ballast system sucks anyway, so I would add a rival system. I can then tell you with confidence that you will be happy with the wake. We have a 24ve, and I ride behind a 22ve a lot. Both boats have sac ballast systems automatically plumbed in. We run about 1500lbs. in the 24ve, about 500 in each rear locker and 500 around the nose of the bow. The 22ve runs a little more weight, about 500 in each locker, 500 around the front and another 500 in the walkway. The wake is great behind both boats. If you want a more vert wake I would recommend to add some lead to the nose of the boat.

I think Tige wakes get a lot of crap, especially on the other wakeboarding forums because people usually don't run a lot of ballast in them. You hear a lot about super air 210's, X-stars, and Vlx wakes, but I can tell you most people have those boats sac'd out with between 1500 - 2000 lbs.

Check this video out, it is behind a Tige 22v, now they have a 22ve but the wake is pretty much the same. It should give you an idea of what a properly weighted Tige can do!!

Your dealer is Stateamind correct? If so they usually don't push ballast, that is where we got our 24ve. Just plain tell them you want it and have them install a huge rival system that will run about 2000lbs.

One thing to keep in mind with any Tige is the weight distribution (including passengers). I can load up my boat, but if the weight's in the wrong place, it's going to suck for the rider.

General rules of thumb for most Tiges are 50/50 front/back. I've even tried 60/40 front/back and the wake got really nice. I learned most of this from talking to the guys that ride at my local dealer. Not sure if that's an option for you. Your Ve should have one of the best wakes out there.

Surfdad's already provided some very good info on weighting a boat for surfing.

Maybe one of the hull designers from Tige can provide a detailed explanation about how the Tige convex hulls react at various speeds and attitudes?

                      John,

I'd like to know what weight/speed/line length you had configured when you sacked out your Tige? Sounds like something wasnt dialed in right.

I have never been on a stock ballast X1/X2, I have only been on an X1 with about 1700 pounds of ballast and the wake was great. Its shape is more vert but a much narrower wake compared to the Tige. One thing I dont like about the X1 is how cramped it is though...to each his own. The 210 is the one boat that has eluded me from riding on it so I cant comment on it.

For the RZ2 I have stock ballast and you can see a picture below.

The stock ballast wake shape is good but becomes great with more weight, the picture below is David another regular poster on this site. We had about 1500 pounds of ballast and he was riding at 22.2 mph at 70ft. The next day we had about 1700 pounds of ballast with a few more people in the boat and the wake was just getting better and better.

Not sure if this answers any of your questions but feel free to ask.

The wake that you guys saw in that video is from a 2005 Tige 22V. The weight is 3200lbs, and distributed roughly 60-40 if I remember right. I actually rode that boat for a couple sets, and just about died...the wake was larger than anything I have ever been behind.

The boat that got swamped is the MU Wake team malibu, which was our boat last year. We now have a 2006 Malibu response.

Good times. Logan Adams is a badass, I got to ride with him this summer. Throws the biggest raleys I have ever seen. He actually threw a bigger one before that video was taken, about 15 seconds before, to make sure he could clear it.

Thanks for the feedback Matt. When you fill your tanks, do you still use TAPS? How many more degrees did they add to the convex V on the RZ, if any?

Here is the info on the other boats and how weighted, etc:

My boat 22Ve: 1100 in the rear lockers 600 total in the front (300 each side), riding at 70' and attempting to maintain speed with Speedset @ about 22MPH. Most of the time we end up driving it since the speedset just lugs the boat between 19 and 22 and will not maintain 22. Taps was set to 4, 7 was to much. Wake still feels just ramp, no kick to it and washes really bad.

01 MC XStar (now x1): 900lbs stock ballast at 22mph at 70'. Love the wake, nice and rampy with a little kick at the top. Same thing here, we added another 500 in the walk through and was it sweet. Don't need the extra 500 but it was good times.

06 210TE: 850 lbs stock ballast at 22mph at 70', really steep and rampy with a big kick at the top. I like the wake much more than the Tige, but not as much as the MC.

I have found a really sweet deal on a 210, but I think I am gonna pass because the dealer will not give me what I want on my trade, so at this point I am probably just going to order an RZ with Tanksand hope it works out. I really like the idea of having the ballast as an option and not really having to add more weight to it, much like the MC and the CC. I hope I can get that out of the RZ and I certainli hope that the quality of the boats overall will be much better this year.

Is there a current Rival Ballast website? The rivalindustries.com seems to not work.

John with stock ballast I have the taps around 7. If I have around 1500 or more I will set the taps around 4-5.

I am not sure how much degrees or any was changed on the RZ.

With that much weight your SpeedSet will vary, same as with PerfectPass. I noticed mine took a little more to keep up with the speed when I had a lot of weight in it. If I run stock ballast it holds fine, the more weight the more sensitive the SpeedSet is going to be. Not sure if there is an adjustment like PP.

Have you tried a 50/50 weight set up?

Also remember the X1 and 210 are narrow boats which will shape much different wakes. 90in beam versuses 102inch beam.

Demo one and find out if the fit is for you.
