How are you right coasters holding up?

I was glad to hear Hurricane Florence was downgraded before it hit land, but it looks like it is still causing tremendous damage.
I can't ever imagine going through something like that.

We are about 4 hrs west of where she made landfall. Been breezy all day here and starting to sprinkle a little now. The storm at this point, looks to be making a pass just to the south of us, then turning north up through our mountains. This could be bad for us 2 fold. We will be on the north side of the storm as is passes south of us, so more wind and rain. Then, as it turns north across our mountains, it will dump all that rain into the head waters of the 2 main river basins that run right back through our area. Southfork river and the Catawba river. The Southfork will flood the downtown of small town right next to us. The Catawba is a dammed river by Duke energy, that makes all of our local lakes.

Duke has opened the dams and let a lot of water down, in anticipation of the rain coming down and filling the lakes back up.

The next 36 to 48 hrs will be when we see the brunt of the storm. 3-5 days for the flooding coming down river from the mountain rains.

I'm in the same area as chpthrill, so far its not been bad for me. Rain on and off all day. Not as much flooding as we've seen during heavy rains, altho I expect that to change as rain is expected to continue into Monday. Wind is heavier than usual, but still nothing we haven't seen before this year, maybe just not this prolonged. So far nothing major has come down around me, just small branches and such, guess we will really see about trees and water levels come morning. We got REALLY lucky that it downgraded to a CAT 2 before hitting the coast. I feel really sorry for the people out there (plus all those boats :'( ), all hurricanes are bad. Looks like some good flooding, and decent damage. Hope everyone is staying safe.

Also, when I read this as right coaster I was like what are people having trouble with the coasters on the right of their boat?!?! why would those mess up and not the left ones. lol

Haha. I just know know they call us left coasters in the west. Thanks for the update and glad to hear you are holding up well, so far.
Maybe they were able to do more preparations like chp said with letting out dam water early. It looks and sounds so bad on the news. And I'm sure it is for many.

So far here at the MLA headquarters, we have gotten 6" of rain from this storm. I know thats likely localized and not as accurate as some official measuring station. Light rain now, but still coming down. Winds were gone by this AM.
