BS X 10! output side of the trans would still be rotating, so the prop did not stop rotating instantly, causing the dive. Running gear had to catch a buoy line.

Totally agree. I was testing an ASR years ago, the exhaust elbow blew apart at wide open throttle and severed part of the engine harness. Loud pop and it immediately killed the engine. Yeah it came to a stop pretty quick but nothing dramatic. I wasn't tossed into the dash, no water over the bow, just a pretty rapid decrease in speed.

No, no, no. This is how it's designed. It's a new ballast system that makes Centurion's 45 second Ram Fill look like child's play. This does 10,000 pounds of ballast in less than 1 second. At this point, no one can touch it. I hear Heyday just bought the rights.

After watching the video like a million times and reading some other forums (not to be a TO traitor but go read the TT tread on it "Worst Driver Ever") I will say with 100% certainty I have no idea what happened.

Some ppl have pointed out it looks like he may be dragging something in the water (an anchor line).

I honestly think it might be a combination of over correcting when he realized he hit the buoy causing him to unintentionally power turn, and slamming it in reverse.

I laughed too hard at that. Buzzfeed caption: other boat owners hate him, learn this one trick to how he got 10,000lbs ballast in 1 second.

We used to intentionally do that in our Mercury powered Seadoo jetboat. The new owner, on our lake, still does it. Jetboats have the advantage that you can kick in the thrust reverser and then ramp up the throttle, exactly like a commercial jetliner engine, and the result is the same - lots of reverse thrust. The bow dives under the water and the passenger compartment can have a couple of feet of water in it. That Seadoo has a 1+ plus drain in the back of the passenger compartment floor for exactly this reason, and I improved the hose routing to increase the drain speed. I even considered adding a pump to drain even faster but never got around to it.

I used to raise a solid wall of water easily 6-10 feet high right in front of the boat. By manipulating the throttle you could either slow down fast enough that little made it into the passenger compartment, or speed into it so the big mass of water just dropped right on top of everybody. For those who didn't know it was coming it was quite the experience!

Note: The deck is one solid piece in such boats, and the ski locker has a nice rubber gasket. The water stays in the passenger compartment and doesn't drain into the bilge like it does on wakeboats. Open the engine hatch and it's nice and dry down there.

my buddy used to do the same thing in his alum river boat. took a while for the jet drive and the 460 to get the boat moving but it could stop and toss up a wall of water just like that boat did. he got good at running hundreds of gallons of water over the closed bow and windshield...
