kicking up volume: rev 8 tower of power

I'm going to start off by saying i am not a stereo/amp guy, but riding around this past weekend it seems that the tower speakers and bass on my 2 rev 8s tower of power system are a little weak. i have to turn it up to 70-75 to really hear it when surfing, and even then the bass esp seems to lack "umph". I hace seein other threads about opening up the bow (cutting a hole in hdpe in stern, under helm compartment. It really was amplified (pun intended) when i rode in surf club malibu today ( 23lsv no tower speakers). i don't know what amp setup it was running, but the sound was punchy and loud. is there a gain setting i can adjust to kick it up a notch on the wetsounds? dealer tune only or diy?

There is nothing at all wrong with this. The amp is set with using the head unit's max clean unclipped output, which ive heard is about 80%-85% of its max volume level. One can tune the amp to make its rated output at a lower head unit setting, but that leads to blown drivers when someone goes past the head unit volume point.

If one does want to make a significant bump in the tower power, then swap the Syn-DX2DSP for a Syn-DX2.3HP.

I do not know if the 18's have changed, so this needs to be looked into. Also, are you using the zone control? Have you tried dialing back on the in-boats so they do not dominate the 10" woofer?

At this point in time, there are no custom amp tunes, only the factory tunes. Tige dealer does not even have a means to build a tune, just simply load the factory supplied tune.

ok, thanks chp.... the adjustment i have done is set the subwoofer level higher, seems to help a little. I'll have to take a look on my 18 to see if it opens to the ballast compartment. I also now wonder if it's simply a matter of speaker area making the difference. the bu i was riding i think were running larger interior speakers vs my R23.

The Bu likely had 2 pair of 8" in-boats at least and most definitely a 12" woofer if factory installed. Speaker surface area makes a huge difference, on that wattage alone to a smaller speaker will likely not overcome.
