Opinion on Wakefoil or Slingshot sport

I have been waiting for the Wakefoil sport to evolve. Has any of our Tigeowners purchased a Slingshot or Wakefoil surf board? Are you able to ride w/o a rope behind the break of the wake? Is this just as enjoyable as surfing or is it just cruising around on the water?

Opinions welcomed and what mast length do you use?

I assume you need to purchase the board too and not use old surf board.

We have the 2019 Hover Foil with the 68 Gamma Wing, started using it about 2 months ago. It is a lot fun and different to ride. You start with the 18" mast for learning how to ride and move to the 24" after. The package comes with both mast and board. Best bet is start using a your wakeboard rope, you need the length to learn to control the board and get used to the out of the water feeling, speed is 10mph to 12mph while learning. Before moving to larger mast and surfing behind boat, make sure you can control it, when out of the water it is pretty fast compared to regular surf board. Takes sometime to figure out and get up on it, it's a little akward with the foil and heavier. They have a really good website to learn how to do it, https://www.foil-academy.com. Both my 8 and 10 year old boys love it and nice break from regular surfing and wake boarding.

How do you store it on the boat?

A good friend of mine just put together one from LP fouls. The thing is insane, so much power and such a high end design. I don’t believe they have it on their website yet as it’s still a prototype.

For storage put it in the rack or the Bimini.

I have a Clear Water foil kit that I still need to glass and assemble. Hopefully this winter.

How do you store it on the boat?

Fits perfect on the tower rack, foil up. You can put it in the surf pockets on the bimini as well.

I'd really like to try/buy one as well. Just not sure how much it would really get used sometimes. When you convert to CDN they definitely aren't cheap either.

I was able to borrow one once. I love my sit down hydrofoil, so a stand up version seemed like something I would love.

I was underwhelmed. Once you cruise around, and catch the wave, then you kind of cruise around and catch the wave some more. No 360 attempts, no real airs, not much slashing, just gentle carving. Maybe I need to look up some Youtube videos, but there just isn't a lot you can do with it. And I definitely worry about the time I took a surfboard to the head and wonder what would happen when I get out of control with that tomahawk underneath my feet. So for now, I will stick with the Air Chair sit down foil and a regular surfboard.
