    HELP

I see lots of problems posted and I'll add one more. I have a pretty noticeable vibration over 1200 rpm only in forward, had reverse over 2000rpm and nothing. Checked the prop and shaft nothing in or around it. Never hit anything. We had just finished surfing and then noticed it. Temp is good engine oil is good. I checked tranny fluid it's clear red, but when I pulled the dip stick it was like a pink grease not pink froth. But the fluid it's self in the tranny looks good. Any ideas would be good. I am leaning towards tranny as it doesn't do it in reverse if it was engine or v-drive shouldn't it do it in either direction?

Ok let the boat sit for a few hours and thought I'd try it again. Took it out ran fine. Thought I'd work it for avid and get it all up to temp and once there it started to vibrate at about 2500 rpm then I stopped and went again and it started at 2000rpm then as I dialed it back it was gone arou d 1000 rpm. This is leading me to tho k maybe a hot tranny, any thoughts?

When did it start? Need specifics or if it came out of nowhere. When was the last time it ran fine? What were the circumstances its started?

We have been using it all week i thought on Wednesday that it may have seemed like it ran funny but I only thought that for a bout 10 min then never noticed it again surfed and wake boarded and cruised around. Then today we did some surfing for about an hour and once we drained the water and I started is when I noticed it.

You said the fluid was like grease, not froth. I don't understand that statement but I would suggest changing the trans fluid first. If you meant the fluid had the viscosity of grease then thats too thick and it probably has flow problems through the pump. But again, I'm unclear on what you meant, please elaborate.

when I pulled the tranny dip stick there was a grease like substance around the base of the dipstick (under the rubber stopper) it was like whit lithium grease that maybe had some trannt fluid on it ? the oil in the tranny is not discolored there are no filing in it. this morning I checked the trannt cooler and the inlet side was full of stuff that the intake must have sucked up. So it may not have been cooling properly. I took it out after cleaning it all out and it did the same thing

Try a different prop. That sounds like a slightly dinged prop to me

Well now that you mention that I thought I saw a small ding on a blade but wasn't sure if it wasn't there already or not. I'll borrow a friend's prop and try it if he still has a spare.

Well...this is your big chance to get a weekend saver prop. I'd order yourself an OJ prop and be done with it. Worst case is that it isn't the prop but then at least you have something ready next time you hit a small stick or something. Acme makes great props as well; however, OJ has about the best customer service I have ever seen so I am a fan for life.

If you are slightly dissatisfied with the performance of your boat, you can go up or down a pitch and it can make a world of difference performance wise

If it is a prop problem would i not have a vibration in reverse as well?

IDK. Reverse has all sorts of weird noises and what not. Simple things being simple and common things being common, I would run the potential of an out of whack prop to ground before chasing the transmission. Especially since it sounds like you need a second prop as well.

I assume your checked all the transmission, coupler and prop bolts right?

Yes checked tgat stuff. I spoke to the Tigè dealer he said prop as well but said could be the shaft strut or strut bearing. All of which would be better then the transmission (one piece at a time lol)

UPDATE: i crawled under the boat to replace the Prop and see if that was going to solve the problem and as I went o to spin the propeller it was loose for an 8th of a turn then tightened up something felt VERY wrong. Well when I started to snoop around in the boat under the engine I found a stainless steel bolt that was Broken in half I searched for ever to find it. I was not until I gave the drive shaft a shake that I felt it move. I had looked at he bolt previously and it all looked good so I thought it was I should have thrown a wrench on to check them as they were loose........very loose and the broken bolt was from the coupler but the empty bolt hole was on the other side so i couldn't see it both times I looked (what a coincidence). I tightened them all up took it for a test run and it ran perfect!!!!!!! there was a small amount of brass filing from the coupler being loose while in use I'm hoping that will be ok or does the coupler have to be replaced?

You should at least replace all four bolts and check alignment at the same time. The coupler face may be damaged and thus cause the shaft to be out of alignment but it may be okay.

The plan is to replace the bolts as the one I put in is not stainless and has a different lock nut so I want to make them all the same. Once the bolts are replaced what woukd I look for to tell if it's out if alignment?
